Summary: I would love to give high marks as I was really looking forward to the enhancements and extra civilizations. Unfortunately the game hangs. We can play for about 20 minutes and then the game hangs. We can still see workers hammering away or tending fields, but nothing can be selected. Exiting through the Main Menu does not work either. Instead, it must be closed through the Task Manager. Looking through the boards, this is not unusual.
Summary: I have never written such a review. This product has so many software flaws that it could not have been tested prior to release. I have the memory, I have the video capabilities, etc. I disabled any options that would add video graphics beyond the bare minimum. I restarted the game with limited competing civilizations in an attempt reduce the memory required between turns. The game freezes - constantly. It would not allow a city to be built.
Summary: Civilization 5 is a dumbed down game for the masses. The complexity of civilization 4 has some signs of life in this game but the overall play and feel of the fifth installment are nothing in comparison to its predecessors. If you really love the series download some mod packs for civ 4 from one of the fan sites but steer clear of this one. Bought it when it came out and have 8 hours of attempted enjoyment.
Summary: Instead of simply download the game and play, Amazon required me to create a new account on "Steam" website, then activate the product from there, which would not happen due to the "invalid product code". This is a horrible and complicated way to waste your money and time.
Summary: Think twice about purchasing this. I wish I did. PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE WARNING ABOUT STEAM IF YOU ARE A MAC USER. I had purchased the previous Civ 5: Campaign Edition through iTunes. It worked find. Steam was not required. Now I purchased Gods & Kings but cannot use it because the original game was not activated with Steam. Software downloads are not eligible for returns. BE WARNED! Be smarter than I was.
Summary: The expansion pack is great. However BE WARE that if you switch computers (god forbid you upgrade), and even though you signed in with the same STEAM account, the Product Code would no longer work. You will THEN have to buy the game all over again, shelling out more cash since your product code isn't recgonized anymore by STEAM. P.O.S. !
