Civilization V – Gods & Kings Review (PC)

Softpedia
20 July 2012
  • Conclusion: Gods & Kings is by no means a perfect expansion, but if Firaxis delivers another one or two packages that contain the same amount of content, then Civilization V will probably fulfill its potential and become the best turn-based 4X video game in history. The most interesting addition is the religion system, which is a great way for players either to enhance the strong points of their civilizations or to mask their most obvious vulnerabilities.
  • Pros: + Religion is fantastic, + New leaders and civs, + More late game options
  • Cons: - Problems with the A.I., - Espionage lacks punch

Civilization V: Gods & Kings

Strategy Informer
1 July 2012
  • Conclusion: The real question is though – is this expansion worth your money? We’d say yes. A lot of these improvements were needed to make long protracted games more interesting, and there’s less of a sense of leaping through the eras (especially the pre and early industrial eras) without really getting a taste of them.

Civilization V: Gods & Kings

GameTrailers
28 June 2012
  • Excerpt: Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods and Kings Review The original Civ V is one of those love it or hate it games. Its streamlined approach to world building make it more accessible, but longtime players will tell you it sacrifices some of its depth in the process. The game's first standalone expansion, Gods and Kings, is looking to inject some of the more obscure elements back into the mix, but can the foundation stand the extra weight?

Civilization V: Gods & Kings review

GamesRadar
24 June 2012
  • Excerpt: Civilization V puts history into perspective, all within its beautifully encapsulated experience. It perfectly captures the glee of discovering a new world, and the horrors of finding it already settled. It replicates the paranoia of being surrounded by strangers, and the thrill of conquering their lands.
  • Pros: Spreading your religion throughout the world, Stealing tech from your enemies, Little upgrades to the core game
  • Cons: How none of the additions feel game-changing, Focusing on religion only to have its benefits taper out, Being late for everything, blaming it on Civ V

Sid Meier’s Civilization Beyond Earth Review

iLL Gaming
18 November 2014
  • Summary: Civilization Beyond Earth feels like a rushed, inconsistent and incomplete official mod for Civilization V that reeks of wasted potential despite retaining the excellent core gameplay and adding new elements to it.
  • Pros: +Excellent Core Gameplay, +Aliens make game interesting, +New additions to gameplay are seamless
  • Cons: -Mid and End Game get tedious and boring, -AI characters lack personality and aren’t a challenge on lower difficulties, -Inconsistency in menus and UI elements, -Too few factions with little uniqueness, -Repetitive Quests

Civilization V: Gods & Kings review

Gamedot
3 July 2012
  • Conclusion: Gods and Kings might not be vital to the whole game and may not address all concerns, mostly those relating to the competency of the AI, but it does provide a goodly amount of new stuff. Everything in this expansion pack is something you want to have in Civilization V. Whether you should get it depends on just how much you want it.
  • Pros: Religion is a fun addition. Lots of new colour and welcome tweaks.
  • Cons: Religious game peters out. Espionage poorly presented.

Sid Meier's Civilization:...

Gamers.de
30 October 2014

  • Pros: Religie keert terug..., Nieuwe volkeren, Nieuwe gebouwen en eenheden, Gevechten beter uitgewerkt, Tof 'Empires of the Smoky Skies'-scenario
  • Cons: ...maar is de enige écht grote toevoeging, Spionage is menu gedreven, AI doet nog wel eens gek
