Summary: This software is already out dated. You can buy it and it will run but if you intend to play against other gamers over the net, you'll have to buy additional content. Let me rephrase, you won't HAVE to buy it but if you don't you'll be pitted against those that have paid extra and they will stomp you with their paid-for superior units. You read it right. Pay up or play at a disadvantage. This is extortion and Creative Arts should be ashamed.
Summary: I got mine at target spent 40 bucks + tax....spent 2 hours installing it and when i finally get to the play screen everytime i press play it gives me 4 more steps it has to complete before i can play.....then nuthin....not a damn thing it wont play...iv tried for over an hour ....i suppose ill waste another 2 hours+ of my life to try and reinstall this game i hope anyone who got it it works better for them.

Summary: if you have a slow internet connection, don't buy this game! I ordered the game 3 1/2 weeks ago. It took a week to get here (afghanistan) it requires a steam account, and gigs worth of updates... 2 1/2 weeks of downloading at 20ish kb/s and internet cut outs... i just wanted to stick the CD in my comp, install and play... anyone remember those days?
Summary: I tried to like this game. Really I did. Having enjoyed the Total War series from the very start, I dutifully bought this game and played it a few times. Before I could get into the swing of things, the manditory Steam interface flipped out. I have spent the last few months trying to reset, clear, or re-install. Just to get the program to work. I am not offended by Sega's attempts to protect their intellectual property.
Summary: This game is a huge disappointment. Units are unbalanced and boring to look at. And the leveling system is one of the worst done in a total war game. the higher up you go the more your general costs until you can barely afford 3 units in a commpetitive game. With the new patch veteran units are almost worthless, watch a level 8 veteran unit of katana samuriu break to peasents if the battle isnt going slightly their way.
Don't buy the Limited Edition - Get Standard or get STEAMED!
16 September 2011
Summary: I just bought this game for my son, and I wish I would have found these reviews before I did. I wanted to get hime the extra features of the Limited Edition. The package comes with 2 DVD ROMS, but you can't install the game from them, despite the files being on there (except the Shogun install .exe). Instead you install STEAM, and then spend 4 hours downloading the files that are on the DVD in front of you. And every time you want to play you have to go through STEAM.
