Excerpt: Sea Dogs is a 3D role-playing/action game set in the 17th century. You play a young man named Nicolas Sharp who has always wanted to be a seaman. You've inherited a trading ship and you begin your runs. But because of war between the English and Spanish you are captured and forced from your ship and into slavery by your Spanish captors. Fortunately you manage to escape and sets off to wreak a horrible revenge on anyone sailing with a Spanish flag.
Excerpt: "Arrrr ..." In this era of wild hybridization and genre convergence, we find our interests piqued by new games that attempt something new and interesting. Bethesda's Sea Dogs caught our eye at E3 last year, and lately I've been giving it a spin. Designed by a talented group of maniacs from Russia, Sea Dogs is a pirate game that blends strategy, role-playing, action, and adventure elements into one wildly ambitious whole.
Summary: Sea Dogs is indeed an epic adventure at sea. With minor bugs that were/will be fixed in patches, Sea Dogs offers the aspiring pirate a chance at pretty realistic battle. And it's fun as well. If you have ever felt salt in your veins or a passion for sea adventures, Sea Dogs is your game.
Excerpt: Yarr! Shiver me timbers! Raise anchor and hoist the sails! Pirates terrorize the islands in Sea Dogs from Akella and Bethesda Softworks, and you just might be one of them. Choose to ally yourself with one of the three powerhouse nations of the day, or raise the Jolly Roger and become a pirate yourself. Let all those who dare to cross you feel the power of your cannons, the bite of rapier, and the sting of your razor sharp wit.
Conclusion: Oh, and one more thing. Our editor Dex just reminded me that the map in Sea Dogs is based on fictional locations, unlike in the original game (this fact totally slipped my mind). Hmm... should we consider this a downside? I did wish for a larger map a couple of times, and I miss giving them naughty Panama citizens a taste of my blade, and using an Atlas to navigate... Other than that, I wasn't really phased by this fact much.
Pros: Expanding on the original Pirates! concept. Balanced and addictive as hell;
Cons: Plot needs more work. Lack of catchy cinematics to tie it all together.
Excerpt: As technological advancements have made games better looking, it has become commonplace for long-time gamers to fantasize about how great it would be if their old favorites were updated for today's more powerful systems. Among the games inevitably brought up in such musings is Sid Meier's Pirates, a simple hybrid of action and strategy elements, which was great fun when it was released in 1987.
Summary: "Sea Dogs vám nepøinese nic radikálního (aspoò, co se týká námìtu).
