Summary: Originally I just hacked in my guitar through my mixer and sound card. Unfortunately you can't play multiplayer that way. The cable is the most idiotic thing ever, and the real con to Rocksmith. I 30 buck cable is NOT going to out perform my 200 dollar SB ZxR. I can't get the latency as low as I can with my sound card either. Epic fail, but a must have for Rocksmith if you intend to play multiplayer. It does however work... so I have to give it 3 stars...
Summary: Okay, let me just be clear here for a moment: this review is for the Real Tone cable and not Rocksmith itself. Rocksmith, as a game, is the most fun way to improve guitar skill and fretboard agility - if you take the time to configure the audio correctly to minimize lag and such. But this cable....well, the cable is absolute crap.
Summary: The software contains all the information advertised but this PC version is not user friendly - unless you're very computer literate. I don't know if the game version works differently, but the PC one is pretty hard to figure out, i.e., doesn't allow you access to any of the computer toolbars as it's full screen and cannot be adjusted.
Summary: Would be better if graphics scroll from right to left as music notes do on paper. Vertical is not normal and difficult to judge when the note hits the mark. The flashes obstruct the view when many notes are being played close together.
Summary: The game is a bit fussy. If it worked the way it is supposed to it would be a great tool to help learn and practice guitar and bass. The game freezes at times, sometimes doesn't register notes/chords played and occasionally doesn't register the tone cable and you have to exit the game and restart. When it plays well it's great, when acting up;infuriating.
Conclusion: Like other reviews point out, this ships without a CD Key (although it ships WITH a cable). While this is very odd, it only took a 2-minute call to Ubisoft to fix. I phoned the number in the manual, submitted a support ticket online while on the phone, and the key came through instantly. It was a minor inconvenience but nothing more.
