Eternal Gaming Network
9 October 2009
  • Excerpt: Making a standout strategy game in this new era of gaming is a tough task, thanks in part to Big Huge Games' earlier effort, Rise of Nations. In the Age of Empires realm of Real Time Stratgy's (RTS), Rise of Nations was the pinnacle of deep and broad gameplay, featuring a huge variety of nations, maps, units, and eras. A sequel was a given, but who expected Big Huge to go out on such a limb with Rise of Legends?
  • Pros: Graphics, artwork, and a solid multiplayer experience.
  • Cons: Weak sound effects, lose story line, some minor gameplay issues.

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends

Strategy Informer
27 March 2007
  • Conclusion: All in all, however, I liked the game and enjoyed my time playing it. The turn based combined with RTF is unique and fun, providing a little time for thinking and not so much twitchy trigger finger. The storyline is not perfect, but it's still worthy of being called a storyline, so you take what you can get and roll with it.

AtomicGamer
5 July 2006
  • Excerpt: Big Huge Games took the RTS world by storm with Rise of Nations, their strategy game that took the best parts of Age of Empires and Civilization and mashed them together just right.  The fast-paced RTS gameplay of historical titles like Age of Empires was fused with unique elements like territorial control and other bits and pieces to make for a true RTS masterpiece.

  • Excerpt: Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends probably isn’t what fans of the venerable Rise of Nations RTS franchise were expecting. It sounds like a sequel, but it's more like an abrupt left turn... to a very cool place.

Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends

Game Over Online
27 May 2006
  • Excerpt: Rise of Nations did not revolutionize the real time strategy genre when it came out in 2003 but it did polish many of the mechanics and offered some evolutionary enhancements to PC strategy. Rise of Legends breaks the historical focus of Rise of Nations and moves the franchise in the direction of fictional fantasy, pitting magical creatures against the mechanical and the spiritual against the medieval. Altogether, there are three unique races in Rise of Legends.
