Summary: I got this game because I had a lot of friends playing on it. It was a nightmare trying to get it to work. I was in contact with technical support for a couple of weeks trying to get it so it would not freeze up. Nothing they told me to do worked. I finally uninstalled the game turned off all of my firewalls, ran a registry cleaner reinstalled the program and it finally worked.
Summary: This game's been out (officially) a bit over 4 months. Already it's gone through a server merge - from 11 servers to 4. Don't be fooled. The vaunted economy system is simply an Easy Button system and is basically a money sink. The ship combat is usually fun, even against the NPC ships. It's a slow stately dance of the seas. But the game is touted as PvP and PvP it is. Actually, it's PvP gankfests.
Summary: Seems to be a clone of Sid Meier's 2005 Pirates except with online play. But it lacks the things that make online play fun. Pros: -Colorful world, sounds are nicely done and sound authentic. -Player toons look great, large selection of cool colorful period outfits. -Sunsets over the ocean look great. Cons: -World has a cartoony look. Everything looks a bit too clean for an 18th century pirate world. -Steep learning curve. -The quests are nearly identical.
Summary: I wanted to like this game, I really did. I loved Pirates! and I think that it makes a great setting for a game. However, after playing the beta I have decided that I have to pass on the game for now. There are just too many things which still need polishing and I think some of the game mechanics like the economy and the end game need some sorting out in the "real world".
Conclusion: Ok i pre-ordered this game a while ago and have had it from the origional release date. This game looked great, being a lover of Sid Miejers Pirates i thought i was in for a right treat. Unfortunatly for me i started playing thinking yeah this is alrite, hmm this business thing is ok but not really sure what i can do with it all, like the pirate creation etc etc but then i got 3 wks into the game and started the fearfull MMORPG feeling, "why am i actually playing this...
