Summary: The original Natural Selection came out a decade ago as a Half-Life mod. It was one of the handful of mods that managed to stand out from hundreds of others thanks to its unique blend of real-time strategy and first-person shooting. After years of development, the sequel is finally out as its own standalone product. If you've been waiting a long time for its arrival, it has absolutely been worth the wait.
Excerpt: Galactic grudge matches between heavily armored space marines and parasitic alien species are nothing new, but Natural Selection 2's cool hybrid approach puts a fresh and exciting spin on the timeless conflict. This riotous online multiplayer game's aggressive matches blend first-person shooter combat with real-time strategy elements to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience.
Conclusion: Natural Selection 2 is good, very good. The game play is varied and well executed, without ever feeling out of balance. Combining both first person shooter and real time strategy elements scared me at first, but Unknown Worlds did a fantastic job in meshing these two elements, giving players the sense that they are involved in something larger.
Summary: Some games are easy to pick up and play. Others require you to learn, improving and developing skills as you go. The multiplayer-only Natural Selection 2 proudly sits in the latter camp. The latter camp isn't for everyone, and that's okay. But as long as a game is designed well enough to allow you to learn, improve and develop, it's always great to see one push the envelope and not rely on the most tried-and-tested formulas.
Pros: Great amount of depth and variety, Gameplay encompasses a wide range of playing styles, Match flow varies hugely from game to game, RTS and FPS elements are both exceptionally well-handled
Cons: Not enough maps, The lack of hands-on tutorial makes matches initially intimidating
Conclusion: Natural Selection 2 is a title that was ten years in the making by developer Unknown Worlds. Ever since the first release back in 2002, the concept of a PvP style game that wasn't just space marines blowing each other apart has intrigued people. Undoubtedly drawing inspiration from both Starcraft and Alien vs. Predator, Natural Selection 2 is quite possibly one of the most unique shooters to date (that's not really saying much with shooters though).
Conclusion: By keeping, in a similar fashion to StarCraft, the two controllable races not only visually distinct but fundamentally, adds exponentially to the play experience and longevity of Natural Selection 2. It’s clear that a lot of time was spent on the core mechanics of Natural Selection 2 with very little left over for superfluous elements like single-player modes, cut-scenes, or complex progression systems seen in EA’s Battlelog or Activision’s Call of Duty.

Dennoch bietet Natrial Selection 2 jede Menge Spielspaß.
