Summary: first you have to register to ubisoft and uplay.com to download and play, do not switch in the vmiddle of the download or you wont be able to play. otherwise a good game if you like role-playing games.
Summary: I've played a lot of incarnations of Might and Magic over the years, and Heroes has always held a special place in my heart. On a whim, I downloaded this game from Amazon to see if I could re-experience some of the old magic I felt when I played the original Heroes of Might and Magic. The download over a reasonable internet connection required six hours, which ultimately failed due to frequent CRC errors during the installation.
Summary: Downloading the game from amazon was the easiest part of the entire process. The game itself is okay but has been constantly patched to fix bugs within the game. Also the Ubisoft interface with the game has also caused problems with running the game. I had to contact customer support and after a week of back and forth emails finally fixed the game crashing on the loading screen.
Summary: I've been a fan of this series since HOMM 3, which ranks as one of my all-time favorite games. I played 4 and 5 as well, and while they were adequate games I didn't really love them. HOMM 6 plays in a very addictive fashion, and reminds me a great deal of the type of gameplay in HOMM 3. I like it more than its two immediate predecessors, and it may end up even giving HOMM 3 a run for its money by the time I am done with it.
Summary: Heroes of Might & Magic V had an incredibly rough launch, the original game was a technical disaster, it ran poorly on high end machines, crashed frequently and was riddled with bugs and exploits. As of the latest patch, Shades of Darkness is "working", it only crashes about once or twice a day, and while some unit spells are clearly broken and the UI has some serious failures, the game is playable. Unless you have a multiple video cards, or you play on a laptop.
Summary: I am glad I waited and purchased this game for about $15. I have just over 20 hours gametime in so far. Not sure what it is but this doesn't have the same feel as previous installments. It's not bad just different. Overall I do enjoy the game although there are still some issues to mention. First there is not a cumulative patch to get you up to date. Each patch has to be separately downloaded and installed.
