Excerpt: Graphics & Sound:
By far, the weakest part of Might and Magic VIII is the game engine. This is the same engine that was used in the previous two Might and Magic games, and it’s really showing its age. It renders simple buildings and such just fine, but all of the characters are horribly pixilated sprites and looking up and down is an exercise in futility.
Excerpt: M&M series is here again, with familiar interface, classic old (oh why??) graphics engine, poor sound but great story and perfect playability. Well, even if the games works still in old graphics 3D engine, the developers tried to get the best from it, by adding greater resolution, better textures and numerous 3D hardware acceleration effects.

Conclusion: to use their party to clear out annoying, weak monsters that will otherwise just get in the way. The battle controls and screen setup itself remain true to the engine, staying functional and to the point. Audio is the same as usual as well: the same clunk when someone hits their head, the same swoosh noise when a fireball is launched, and so on. The voice acting, while sparse, is decent.
Excerpt: The Might and Magic franchise has a long standing, well deserved reputation as great, classic Role-Playing Gaming. It's got sequels and spin-offs galore in the grand game-industry tradition of milking the virtual cash-cow. So without a complete overhaul and perhaps a new name, you just know that Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer is going to show up showing its age.
Excerpt: When 3DO develops a game engine, it sure likes to get its money's worth. Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer is a perfect example: The hack-and-slash RPG looks and plays just like its two most recent predecessors, despite the fact that it features some fundamental design changes and gameplay enhancements.
