Mass Effect is a role playing game (RPG) developed by Canada’s BioWare Corp. It was earlier developed for the Xbox 360 but, in May 2008, Electronic Arts published the PC edition.

This space opera action RPG takes place in the year 2183 within an epic universe. Its players assume the role of Commander Shepard, a human soldier who set out on a starship to explore a vast galactic community. The villain in the game is a renowned agent who has gone rogue. This rogue agent threatens to conquer the galaxy through alien armies. To keep that from happening, players must lead a squad of freedom fighters with the ultimate goal of restoring peace within the galaxy.
Mass Effect features a real-time tactical combat system. As the leader, players can easily control each and every member of the squad. It features a Tactical Heads-up Display (HUD) so players can access Individual Squad Command, Biotics Powers, and Abilities & Weapons command interfaces in one screen.
At the beginning of the game, players can choose from a range of character appearances. Throughout the game, players will have the chance to increase various statistics and acquire a number of equipment, artillery, and armor. Everything acquired throughout the game will have an effect on the appearance of characters. Apart from this, players are allowed to visit a number of unexplored planets. However, this is not directly related to the game’s main story line.
Other features of Mass Effect’s PC edition include optimized controls, higher resolution visuals, re-designed Mako controls, and an enhanced inventory system.
Mass Effect runs on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. It requires at least a 2.4 GHz Intel or 2.0 GHz AMD processor. It also requires at least an NVIDIA GeForce 6 series or an ATI 1300XT graphics card, DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers, and 12 gigabytes of hard drive space. It requires at least 1 gigabyte of RAM when running on XP and 2 gigabytes when on Vista.
See lessIf I can be very rude for a second, I find Mass Effect an alternative version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Remove The Force and add Mass Energy, inject a new story and replace the combat system with something real-time. The result on the other hand feels good and is what every RPG should be, except for the Miko of course. A lover without Xbox360? Then this version is certainly your thing! Read more
Fans of Star Wars and Star Trek finally have a role-playing game that’s worthy of their love. Mass Effect takes the most compelling themes and ideas of both franchises and mind-melds them into one of the best science fiction games we’ve ever played. Read more
Once more saving the galaxy… Mass Effect takes place in the distant future, having a certain Mr Shephard as its main character whizzing around space. For those of you familiar with the Xbox 360 version, the game follows the same storyline, for those of you that are not, humanity has discovered ruins of an ancient and advanced civilization on the planet Mars which resulted in achieving instant faster than light travel through Mass Relays, in other words the Holy Grail... Introduction BioWare released Mass Effect for the Xbox 360 in November of last year. It was their first full release in over two years, and it reviewed pretty well. The worst score I saw for it was 80%, and some jokers out there even gave it 100%. Somewhere near the end of the game’s development cycle, BioWare started working with Demiurge Studios on the project, and Demiurge took over the reins when it was time to convert Mass Effect to the PC. I didn’t play the... Read more
So a lot was made about Mass Effect's storyline and the freedom it offers the player. I was looking forward to a vast suite of options, as well as deep and involved characters. Was I disappointed? Well, I'm sorry to do this, but I'm going to have to be cowardly and say 'kind of'. Read more
In the Christmas sales, I was lucky to pick up Mass Effect for just £5 (thats around $7.50). I had played on the Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect at a friend’s house, and had enjoyed it. I had some apprehension about installing Mass Effect, or even buying it, since it uses Securom 7 Copyright, which has been labeled by some, including Microsoft (though briefly), as a rootkit. Thankfully, I realised, that another of my games, Spore, also uses Securom 7, so I determined... Read more

"Mass Effect" is Bioware's unfortunately titled science-fiction rpg title that takes the player on an exciting adventure into galactic combat and political intrigue. It is an intriguing hybrid of role-playing elements and third-person action that ... Read more
This isnt going to be a rant about DRM. Why? Because I would gladly pay another sixteen dollars for this game if I ran out of activations. Theres alot to complain about in Mass Effect: the combat isnt all there, the ai is dumb and the side missions are basically the same but with a new coat of paint. But its all still fun because Bioware has given us the most complete and most interesting sci fi universe since Star Wars. The storytelling in this game is incredible. The... Read more
