King’s Bounty: Armored Princess
1 August 2010
Excerpt: Even though this game continues from the previous King's Bounty title, both newcomers and fans of the original will have no problem in jumping straight into the title. For older fans, they can up the difficulty and for those new to the series, they can start on a lower difficulty in order to master the world of the beautiful princess Amelie.
Excerpt: If Le Morte d'Arthur is considered a classic in the world of literature, then King's Bounty is not only a classic amongst RPGs, but all of gaming. King's Bounty has withstood the test of time. Go on, find a copy of the Genesis version, or whichever of the several versions are out there, and try it out. I dare you to not enjoy it. But this review isn't about King's Bounty. This review is about King's Bounty: Armored Princess.
Excerpt: A number of years have passed since Bill Gilbert closed the portal to the Underworld. Baal has broken loose and is threatening the Kingdom once more. Now it's up to King Mark's daughter Amalie, a gift from the gods who trained under the vaunted hero, to skip through time and space to retrieve Bill and protect her Kingdom before the final bastion is overtaken by the denizens of Hell.
Conclusion: King's Bounty: The Armored Princess is a great game if you fall into its target demographic. Those looking for something more than a single-player strategy/RPG hybrid should look elsewhere.
Conclusion: When you break down all the facets of King's Bounty, you get a genuinely pleasing strategy experience with strong emphasis on role-playing. Armored Princess, basically, offers the same kind of experience as the original, except this time they've added a few cool extra components to make things a more enjoyable for players.
Pros: Delivers a satisfying strategy experience and retains all the decent bits of the original, in addition to fixing a few slip ups the devs made the first time around;
Cons: More new units, enemies and bosses would have been appreciated. It just feels thin when it comes to new content. For an expansion pack, that goes without saying... At least, it used to be that way.
Excerpt: King's Bounty: Armored Princess does more of the same really well. The stand-alone expansion to 2008's cult hit King's Bounty: The Legend adds virtually nothing to the original's strategy role-playing game formula, but the game does all of the by-the-numbers stuff so perfectly that you can't help but love the deja vu. While developer Katauri Interactive isn't going to win any awards for innovation here, this is still a must-play for anyone who loves this genre.
Pros: Brilliantly nails the traditional strategy RPG formula, Lots of depth with units, spells, magical items, and hero development, Colorful plot with memorable characters
Cons: Difficulty ramps up too quickly, Dated visuals and sound
