Throwback Flight Sim

Amazon Customer "Throw Back", Amazon
11 October 2009
  • Summary: This is the greatest Flight Sim ever. Jane's got it right in 1999 and "NOBODY" has gotten any better since. True, the graphics and multiplayer has evolved but . . ., the gameplay never improved much beyond this.

The Most Realistic combat flight Sim

Scott, Amazon
5 January 2005
  • Summary: I bought this game from amazon.com. I haven't stopped playing it since i got it 5 days ago. There are 8 planes. and an extra plane (Mig-29) that you can fly in multiplayer. You can fly in a war that occured in the past or in the future. There is even a mission where you have to save Air Force One from migs just like in the movie. In one mission I had to shot tanks in an A-10 and I ran low on fuel and I got to REFUEL IN MIDAIR.

Flawed but fun

"marshallstack", Amazon
12 May 2004
  • Summary: It's flawed but fun. The fun: Smart alec "Scooter" Davis as IP. Just like a lot of IP's in the Air Force. All the choices of aircraft to fly. All the different campaigns. Flight models generally realistic; i.e., you can't haul an F-105 around the sky like an F-16. Graphics are not bad for someone with an older computer and Windows 98. Flaws: Avionics! USAF F-4E's did not have a HUD, nor did F-105's. The early F-16C modelled also did not have onboard ECM.

Too bad... It had a lot of potential.

D. Schwartz, Amazon
4 June 2003
  • Summary: This game made a very good impression on me. In fact, I thought it was the best ever. However, there's a big "but". There are so many BUGS!!! It is unbelievable that Jane's was able to release this thing with so many bugs. I was put in disbelief, because this game has some of the best graphics and realism I've ever seen for a fighter-jet game. I know what you're thinking, though. Look for a patch? Nope.

  • Summary: ...after reinstalling usaf and setting compatibility to windows 2000 for XP the usaf seemed to work much better...I guess the ati 9700works fine with this game, but I figured this out without ati tech help!...for windows 95,98&ME the game runs fine and good on XP with compatibility set to Windows 2000...enjoyable simulator, especially mid-air refueling near hostile area...fill-up,lock-on, fire and flee!

This game rocks!

Connie Ashenfelder "avid reader", Amazon
21 January 2003
  • Summary: There are several patches that you can download to make the game more interesting. A lot of the comments you hear the pilots saying seem dated, but if you're a historical buff, they are very appropriate (Vietnam and Persian Gulf scenarios especially).
