Excerpt: While not perfect, a worthy addition to the Bond catalog and the third person genre. James Bond 007: Bloodstone is not just a Bond game, but a new Bond experience set to move the series forward as a whole. From the story to the presentation, Blood Stone is in every way suitable for the big screen as a Bond production. As a game, Blood Stone excels with fantastic mechanics and terrific singleplayer set pieces but could use more work in the multiplayer department.
Excerpt: Blood Stone, a DS game which provides for a mixed experience. One might be surprised to see multiple Bond games release so close to each other on various platforms with different developer backings. The thing is, while GoldenEye has the backing of an entire film and another excellent game, Blood Stone is on its own and a bit of a mess.
Excerpt: Blood Stone starts alright, I suppose. There's a chase, some explosions and a bit of shooting right after a cutscene where Bond parachutes out of a plane and kicks somebody to death. You've got some jazzy opening credits - just like in the movies - where Bond punches people so hard they pop into diamonds, and Joss Stone also does a bit of singing.
Conclusion: In the end, James Bond Blood Stone 007 is a pretty decent game, which will no doubt keep you interested if, by any chance, you haven't bought any of the big fall blockbusters like Fallout: New Vegas or Call of Duty: Black Ops. If you know a James Bond fan and you want to surprise him this holiday season, then Blood Stone is pretty good choice.
Conclusion: That said, on-foot combat is what makes up the bulk of your adventure. Played purely as a third-person shooter, Blood Stone is solid, though a bit unspectacular. The cover mechanics are intuitive and responsive, while weapon sound effects and enemy animations harmonize nicely to make for an impactful shooting experience--though a lack of variety in weaponry and enemy types holds back the core gunplay.
Pros: Solid shooting mechanics and slick melee combat, Driving sections are a blast, Great production values, Globe-trotting story allows for lots of environmental variety.
Cons: Gets off to a very slow start after the prologue, Throwaway multiplayer, Gadget sections are simply filler.
Excerpt: Like a great Bond movie, James Bond 007: Blood Stone jumps headfirst into a spectacular action scene before the opening credits even roll. Going from silently dropping enemies on a ritzy yacht right into a pair of harrowing chase scenes--first by boat on the Mediterranean and then by car on the streets of Athens--this third-person action game from Bizarre Creations makes a thoroughly memorable first impression.
Pros: Solid shooting mechanics and slick melee combat, Driving sections are a blast, Great production values, Globe-trotting story allows for lots of environmental variety
Cons: Gets off to a very slow start after the prologue, Throwaway multiplayer, Gadget sections are simply filler
Conclusion: For a heavily cinematic game, the campaign doesn’t outstay its welcome (translation – it’s quite short) and although it’s not quite as engrossing or well written as the recent Bond films, it does serve as an adequate stop-gap for fans waiting on the next film. The game engine does a pretty good job of mimicking the live-action look and feel of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace thanks to some great environment detail and post-processing effects like film grain and...
Pros: Cinematic story in the tradition of recent Bond films, Great melee takedown animations, Trotting the globe from Siberia to Bangkok, as 007
Cons: Car chase sequences lack the polish expected of a developer known for car chases, Very little spy-work to be done, A multiplayer mode that could have easily been omitted
Excerpt: Most of us will have experienced the scenario where you are unwillingly dragged away from your comfort zone by friends, family or your better half and thrown into a socially awkward situation, only to be pleasantly surprised by the sheer amounts of fun the evening had in store.
