Summary: I you like combat flight sims you will love this one. I ordered it years ago and I still play it to this day. I keep one gaming pc with XP still on it to run these older games on. It may run fine on windows 7 I have not tried it. For when it was made it has solid graphics. I run this game using an AMD 975 X4 and EVGA GTX460 2gb video card in a pc running XP. I have not had any issues with the software at all it runs perfect for me..

Summary: I run Win7x64 with 4GB RAM, 512MB AMD GPU, and after researching compatability issues and watching several videos on YouTube of it running on a similar system, decided to buy IL2 Sturmovik 1946. It would have been nice to know beforehand that the version to be delivered was the European Region DVD and not the US version. I cannot access the disc at all, though the computer does at least recognize that I have indeed inserted a DVD.
Summary: Some years ago I had the Original IL-2 Sturmovik but never really had the system for it. Recently I acquired IL-2 Cliffs of Dover and installed that on a new gaming computer system. Visually very nice with good gameplay and active community support. Nice but limited focus. Then I started looking at the much older IL-2 series and the 1946 combo pack. I installed the dvd version then proceeded to install each of the community developed (Daidalos Group) official patches.
Summary: I paid $8 for this sim to use on my obsolete 2006 laptop. It has proven to be an excellent investment (my wife may disagree). It runs fine on my old laptop. Paired with TrackIr it has opened up a whole new level of realism. And I love the amount of historical detail embedded in this sim, with all sorts of obscure aircraft available from different theaters. The look of the menus, and the theme music etc., are not polished to say the least.
Summary: Basically an entire collection of the IL-2 Original Series (Pacific Fighters, Forgotten Battles, etc.) Includes a lot of aircraft and missions. The game requires time to learn the controls, but when you finally get the hang of it, it's really fun. This is not an arcade shoot 'em up so don't expect super huge explosions and one shot kills. PROS: Many planes, quick and full mission builders, ability to have custom skins, multiplayer, player campaigns, patch updates.
Summary: Pure and simple, this is without a doubt the best WWII flight sim there has ever been. The sheer number of aircraft, the detail put into each one, and the flight characteristics are second to none.
Summary: IL-2 1946 is the finest and most enjoyable flight simulator I've ever played, and I've tried them all. I always come back to IL-2. It's actually almost a daily routine. Double-click the Trackir desktop icon and then the IL-2 icon and I'm gone for my hour or two of flying Spitfires, P-38's, Bf-109's and La-5's and a slew of other sexy fighter aircraft, and if I'm in the mood for fighter-bombers, or heavy bombers then I go on a bombing mission.
Stellar study of WWII air warfare; & stunning flight simulation to boot!

Summary: If I may describe the virtues of IL2:1946 in point form! - Any one of the IL2 series are among the best air combat simulation software you can currently get for the PC. With IL2:1946 you get the ENTIRE series on a single DVD. - It is the BEST WWII simulation for air-combat there is. - It sports a high fidelity physics engine as well as an inbuilt & powerful mission/campaign creation & management utility. - This is definitely a product that broadens perspective!
Summary: Well, I've been flying on the PC since the monochrome days and I haven't seen a simulator with AI as smart as those seen in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946. The little buggers are harder to shoot down then any other simulator I have owned. As soon as one of the rounds from your plane fly past them they take evasive action. They just don't jink either !! ! I have TRACKIR 4 Pro/Track Clip Pro and IL 2 works perfectly with it/them.
