Excellent Introduction

PRS Low "The Last Man", amazon.co.uk
19 November 2007
  • Summary: My six year old taught himself to play using this program, largely without adult help. The tutorials are well presented and useful and the graphics sufficiently varied to hold a child's attention. As the other reviewer notes, the commentary is written, not spoken, which for smaller children is not ideal, but for a child able to read moderately well, this provides an additional benefit, as the language used is lively and stimulating, rewarding any effort made.

Chess, in a galaxy far far away

Domu, Ciao
16 February 2006
  • Excerpt: "Another Star Wars licensed game that has very limited connection to the Star Wars saga/universe. In this case it's not really a bad thing, it doesn't matter that chess does not feature in the Star Wars stories, because the game says what it is. Basically put - it's a chess game using characters from the Star Wars series of films to represent the pieces. The white player controls the "good" characters, while the black player controls the "bad". As ...
  • Pros: easy controls and amusing animations
  • Cons: simple graphics, limited environments .

Fun and strategy for all ages

Ellen Conlon, amazon.co.uk
28 October 2005
  • Summary: Every PC chess game includes play and tutorial modes, but Majestic Chess offers something different: a Chess Adventure. The Adventure mode is an expedition through 8 medieval lands dotted with castles and populated by queens, knights, trolls and ogres. Each level proposes 3 types of interwoven activies: instruction regarding a particular strategy, puzzles to test the strategy, and short game sessions to put this particular strategy into practice.

Poor compat, worse support

Shai Guday, Amazon
8 March 2004
  • Summary: Bought this for my son at Costco. Tried installing it on 3 different PCs, each of which exceeded the minimum recommended settings by far. In all three, the program installed without a hitch and would not run. I then tried contacting tech support and relaying the detailed diagnostic log information. They were less than helpful and suggested "fixes" that broke compatability with other programs - and still did not work.

visually and audibly stunning!

Rick Moore, Amazon
27 January 2004
  • Summary: The graphics on this are the best of any chess game I've seen to date. The graphics are super sharp and the sound track is very alluring. It's exactly what chess ought to be in this high tech age! The mood of the whole game makes you want to learn more and play more. TOP CHOICE for anyone wanting to learn the game from scratch! The adventure mode...well words can't describe how awesome it is...you just have to play it! WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!!!!!!! BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Won't Run

Bazoobuth, Amazon
25 January 2004
  • Summary: I installed Majestic Chess on two computers--one running Windows 2000, the other running Windows 98SE (FAT32), and Windows 2000 (NTFS). The hardware on both machines is up to speed. The installs (including two on the dual-booter) went smoothly, however, the chess games won't run at all. But the Hoyle demo games will.

ok chess program with good graphics.

Mohammed K. Hassan, Amazon
13 December 2003
  • Summary: This software is mostly intended for ocassional chess players. Younger or even older people who are just learning chess will like it. However for serious chess freaks like myself will go somewhere else. The mouse control and movement of your pieces is very sluggish. It doesn't have the option to open .pgn (portable game notaion) or other types of database files. I recommend this ONLY for people who just started learning the game. ...

:(

oscar w anderson, Amazon
3 November 2003
  • Summary: First of all this is a nice game I think great idea, cool music and spooky graphics thats why i bought it just cause it looks nice and the adventure of course. If you need a program for analysis and study this is not for you then Chessmaster or Fritz is a much better choice- in fact this program doesnt even have a database its just for the fun. So its a good game i think and i would give it 4 or 5 stars BUT....
