Excerpt: Heroes of Might & Magic IV (HoMM4) is the fourth incarnation of the Heroes of Might and Magic series. For those who never heard about the Heroes series, it's a series of turn-based strategy games that take place in a colorful fantasy world populated by colorful characters and monsters. I have read many HoMM4 previews that claimed that the game will be more than a sequel and it's really true.
Excerpt: Strategy and FPS games seem to almost define PC gaming sometimes. They are both in abundance, and it's a rare month when something from each genre doesn't find its way on the shelves. The sheer number of titles available within the strategy market, never mind the sub-genres, makes it supremely difficult for any company to make a name for itself.

Excerpt: For those new to the series, Heroes of Might and Magic IV is a turn based strategy game based on the Might and Magic RPG. The series has always had a charmingly simple core system of rules, you gather resources needed to build structures, which are needed to create troops, which are needed to conquer your enemies. You don't worry about diplomacy, or keeping your citizens happy, you wander and conquer.
Excerpt: The Heroes of Might and Magic strategy series dates back to 1990 with the series' precursor, King's Bounty. Since then, the series has given rise to three games and several expansion packs over the course of about a decade. But none of that history really seems to matter at this point.
