Summary: Don't waste your time, while it has some innovative and intriguing features there are too many bugs to be able to enjoy playing. My copy crashes like clockwork after around 15 minutes of play.
Summary: Very poor. The game is complex and attempting to get the manual is almost impossible. I attempted three different sites, one wanted me to join and charged for joining, one never connected and the last had viruses in the download. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! The game consistently crashes and is virtually unplayable and total waste of your money and NOT RECOMENDED.
Summary: I found the game to be overly complicated, hard to learn and completely dissatisfying. I like to have the AI under the hood and just kill the enemy. Control of the pieces leaves a lot to be desired. If you liked Panzer General, you will not like this game.
Summary: There are radical changes from HoI 2. They have tried to make it more like an old Avalon Hill boardgame in appearance, which dramatically detracts from the visual appeal and the playability of the game. The mechanics are even more complicated than before and the economics are impossible. True, HoI 2 had some flaws but HoI 3 not only does not address theese flaws but they have actually made the game worse.
Summary: I am basically an HoI2 addict. I've been playing it for years, and keep on coming back to it. That game, though not perfect, is so close to fine that any flaws I could mention are mere quibbles. I play a game once or twice a month.. All I need to do to lose myself is to cue up Nationalist China or Turkey and two or three hours, and I am utterly copacetic. When this iteration of the game came out, I was pleased. I expected great things..
Summary: It would be nice if I could rate the gameplay in comparison to the previous versions, both of which are still instaled on my machine and both of which I still play regularly. But before I could decide if I liked the new look or not, the game would have to work. I bought HOI3 as soon as it came out, wanting to get a look at it even if I knew it would need some patches and time. But after 3 major patches, the game has never worked.
Summary: I'm also a seasoned wargame player, and I wanted to add my voice to the criticisms by other users here. I have played every previous version of Hearts of Iron. They all had their share of problems, and I was hoping HoI3 would be a leap forward. Despite some small welcome improvements, overall I was grossly disappointed. Unlike what favorable reviewers claim, this game has fundamental problems that can't be fixed with just "some patches".
