Summary: After waiting literally ages for this, I have just read that UBISoft cancelled the Harpoon 4 project. Announcement is dated 2003/11/27. The authors are looking at other ways and means to put this development back together. In the meantime, harpoon 1 was/is still a lot of fun.
Summary: After waiting 5 years for the release of Harpoon4, I think that the cancellation of this release is the most ridiculous news I have ever heard. Even if the development of this software was hampered by 4 corporate buyouts, why would the company disappoint and offend its customer base the way they have with killing this release? With the news releases on other websites, it appears that the development team finished in its work, but had some bugs in the program.
Summary: Harpoon 4 was finally put to rest in peace (R.I.P.) and I believe Ubisoft did everyone a big favor. I think some of the same folks who made that disaster called Harpoon 2 also were the ones who worked on Harpoon 4 right from the get-go. So it should come as no suprise that H4 became a disaster. As somebody mentioned previously, the Harpoon community got the license for the code for Harpoon Classic '97 and created Harpoon 2003 Gold.
Summary: Concerns About Product Quality Crucial to Final Decision SAN FRANCISCO - November 26, 2003 - Ubisoft™, one of the world's largest videogame publishers, today announced that it has officially ceased production on Harpoon IV and has chosen not to release the title. "Ubisoft is committed to making the best military simulation games possible, and unfortunately, the Harpoon IV project wasn't meeting this goal.

Summary: While we wait I understand that Harpoon 97 has become Harpoon Classic 2002 and Harpoon II became Harpoon III. Both are available now and are supported by the publisher AND the Harpoon community. Something to tide us over....
Summary: I want a picture of at least one game designer working on this, actually i want a picture of two game designers working on this, because I am truly under the belief that only one person is working on this game and he is sitting in a corner being told to work slower because nobody ever wants the game to come out. Can this possibly take any longer?!?!? I remember waiting in line at the DMV one aug afternoon for 4 hours and it seemed like time had stood still.....
Summary: After reading the game specs and looking at in-game screen shots (which I'm convinced really don't exist) I wait with anticipation for the French owned UBI Soft game called Harpoon 4. Looks like the French can't even get a fake war going. Give me the days of Three-Sixty Pacific (the original developers of Harpoon). I'm now convinced that the game is named after Harpo Marx and National Lampoon and not the sleek, sub-sonic anti-ship missle.
Summary: I'm convinced now that Harpoon 4 doesn't really exist. I came to that conclusion given the fact that its release date always bumps back a couple of months whenever we get close to reaching it. I've seen this happen again and again. As I've said before, I can't fathom why UBISoft does this unless they want to make the purchasers of the game so blind with anger that they overlook whatever flaws the game does have.
