Conclusion: Estimated by most first-timers to be a five-hour game play, Half-Life 2: Episode One is a wonderful addition to the widely-lauded Half-Life series. Just perfect game pacing, splendid atmosphere and top-rating production value. Seen to be another feather in feather in Valve Software’s cap, this will be another candidate for gaming awards because of the excellent work done.
Excerpt: Traditionally the summer isn't a great time to release video games. The weather is nice, there's lots of sport on and 'blockbuster' films are lining up to compete for your well-earned pound. Why be cooped up inside, hunched over a keyboard and mouse, when you could be happily skipping along in daisy-filled fields? Of course, this isn't an entirely accurate depiction of an English summer, especially this English summer, but the point remains.
Summary: Parents need to know that players navigate a dark storyline featuring an apocalyptic alien invasion and the potential end of the human race. Action is fast and furious, featuring graphic violence and incredibly creepy situations. Players use grenades, machine guns, a signature crow bar, etc., and blood splatters, bodies fly apart, zombies catch on fire, and more.
Excerpt: Half-Life 2: Episode One is the first in a new trilogy of episodes that are scheduled to be released over the course of the next year. The first episode fills in a lot of the story gaps that you may have found with Half-Life 2 and at the same time opens up a whole new world of possibilities.
Excerpt: Valve gives you more Half-Life 2 at a bargain price, but does that mean it's worth it?
Pros: More Half-Life! You get more of the same great encounters with the Combine and zombies, more excellent level design, and more plot exposition. Well maybe not that last one.
Cons: No new weapons. No new environments. No new characters. Maybe one new enemy. A lot of the game is spent trying to remember if you're playing Episode One or the original Half-Life 2. Unfortunately it doesn't elaborate on the already complex Half-Life saga. In fact, it adds more questions.
Excerpt: Half-Life 2 , though I felt it was a bit overrated, was undeniably a major release and a massively influential game. Valve might be toiling away creating the next-generation Source engine, but they know a cash cow when they see one and Half-Life 2 has the fan following to keep them afloat while they work on their next big blockbuster.
Conclusion: Dominions 3, with its turn-based structure feels and plays like one of those old favorite strategy board games that many of us may have grown up with. With its amazingly detailed combat system and multifaceted player customization, it will be easy for strategy game fans to find both challenge and enjoyment out of this title. Even with such drawbacks as dated graphics and sound effects, Dominions 3 overcomes these faults with solid gameplay and content.
Conclusion: There are still many issues to resolve when it comes to episodic content, but this is a fine start. Episodic content could very much be like a micro brew. It’s a little smaller, and a little pricier, but with a little care and attention to detail, developers can create experiences that equal or surpass the original, while exploring unique new concepts.
