  • Excerpt: One thing that really impressed me with this game is the next to nothing load times. Granted this is on a high end machine, but even on a system with just over the minimum specs the load times are still very low.
  • Pros: At first sight, this game looks like your typical shooter. Upon a second look this game reminds me of the Grand Theft Auto games. Although you have a main storyline to follow, there are also a large amount of side missions to complete. This also brings me to the first downside of the game. The main storyline mission constantly nags you to return to where you need to go to continue while you run side missions. The game is also very straight line mode. To clarify when I...

Counter-Strike: Gun Game

Thunderbolt Games
14 April 2007
  • Excerpt: Counter-Strike originated as a modification for the original Half-Life and spawned a legion of diehard fans that propelled Counter-Strike into mainstream PC gaming. More than 5 years after the initial release of Counter-Strike , servers across the world are still hosting games and thousands of players are still logging on and playing every single day. It’s a very impressive feat that few other games can claim.

Gun

GAMESQUAD
29 August 2006
  • Conclusion: All things considered, Gun quickly proves to be quite challenging and very addictive, so much so, that just for a second, it really felt like I had actually been part of the rough and tumble Old West! Between the well-conceived main story, the additional side missions, and the added spice of hunting outlaws and random bandit attacks, Gun proved to be very enjoyable---doubly so for anyone who really enjoys cowboy movies!
  • Pros: Addictive gameplay; well-conceived main storyline; useful control system; excellent sound effects.
  • Cons: Main story is too short; graphics look dated.

Gun

Strategy Informer
10 August 2006
  • Excerpt: If life in the Wild West was anything like it is portrayed in Gun, it must have been dirty, hard, difficult, violent, and short. Gun is a new action adventure game in the Tony Hawk series from Never soft set back in the Old West. It features an open range environment that you can explore and adventure through either on foot or by horse, operate a variety of missions, and carry lots of rifles and guns-all in a fascinating and engaging story line. Sounds perfect, right?

Gun Review

VideoGamer.com
5 August 2006
  • Excerpt: What do you do when you're fed up with making yearly skateboard titles that appeal to a hugely broad demographic? Make a brutal shooter set in the Wild West that carries an 18-certificate and has the 'kids can't play this' appeal of the Grand Theft Auto series. This is what famed Tony Hawk developer Neversoft has done, and while it's not really a genre that you could have predicted they would move into, GUN is a solid entry in what will undoubtedly be the first of a new...

  • Conclusion: THE VERDICT: It's refreshing to play an action game that isn't set in an inner-city environment and that alone is almost reason enough to give Gun a try. While the gameplay may not be all we wanted it to be, it's still a competent vehicle for getting you through the twists of the blood-soaked story. If you're a fan of the Wild West, you're probably already playing this, but if you're not, you might want to give this one another look.

GamesFirst!
26 November 2005
  • Excerpt: Neversoft's latest offering diverges greatly from their history with the Tony Hawk franchise. Gun is a wild western that puts you in the role of Colton White as he hunts for the man who murdered his father. This is a gritty action game with plenty of awesome shootouts and gorey mutilations, and it's definitely something that anyone who loves Unforgiven or Deadwood ought to check out. But can Gun win over gamers to become the baddest disc your box has ever slotted?
  • Pros: ups: Great wild west environments and story; excellent voice acting and dialogue; nice third-person action.
  • Cons: downs: Glitches that directly affect gameplay; some game design issues.

Gun

  • Conclusion: The shooting action is great, though it's not for the faint of heart. The makers of this game must be big fans of HBO's Deadwood or something, because the level of violence and general vulgarity in Gun greatly surpasses what you'd probably expect from a typical Western, even if you've seen some of the gorier ones.
  • Pros: Great presentation features exciting cutscenes and terrific voice acting, Intense, gory shooting action, Fun horseback riding.
  • Cons: Short storyline isn't made up for by shallow side missions, Some noticeably undercooked elements of play, Some of the violence and profanity feels too gratuitous.
