GTA: San Andreas review — June 2005, UK edition

Conclusion: Minor graphical scars left from its painful transformation into a PC game do nothing to dull San Andreas’ inner beauty. The best of the series, and already a contender for game of the year.
Excerpt: Who on this planet have not heard about Grand Theftt Auto: Vice City, especially after its successful debut on the Playstation 2 last year. So it's not surprising when Rockstar Games announced they are porting San Andreas to the PC and Xbox. And now, the PC version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is finally here! Grand Theftt Auto: San Andreas takes the series back to the early 90's, set in the fictional California-ish state of (what else?) San Andreas.
Excerpt: Having played through the entire game of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on the PS2, it is only natural that I wanted to see how the PC version fared. In general, I enjoy the PC version of the GTA series more than I do the PS2 ones. Not that the PS2 games are bad or anything, but having grown up as it were playing PC games, the controls are generally easier for me to pick up.
Excerpt: Every year, an innumerable amount of videogame titles see the light of day, many of which are bland and uninspired copycat releases. One distinct game series seems to have survived the test of time while spawning countless imitators that aimed to mimic its open-ended, free roaming style of gameplaymost of them failing miserably.
Conclusion: THE VERDICT: If you don't already own Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, make it your priority to pick it up on any of the three platforms it is now available for. It's a massive, extremely imaginative and enjoyable action game which anyone can pick up and make their own.
