Giants - A Holiday Gone Wrong

Jak2039, Ciao

  • Excerpt: Giants - Citizen Kabuto was developed by Planet Moon Studios. The first I heard of this game was from a demo some years back. It was three episodes into the main storyline and the first thing I noticed was how extensive the levels were. For as far as the fog and view range would allow you, there was either terrain or water. The game is based on a series of islands, so the water is quite common.
  • Pros: Three Sides, Vast Maps, Three - Way Multiplayer, Humour, Base - Building
  • Cons: Linear Story, Not For Minors

Giants Of The Old Age

Street, amazon.co.uk

  • Summary: The key to Giants' originality lies in the gameplay variety. You'll play as three distinct races through about 25 hours of total playtime: the futuristic jetpack adorned Meccs, the beautiful rogue Sea Reaper Delphi, and the game's namesake, the colossal Kabuto himself. The Meccs, Delphi, and Kabuto all offer unique gaming experience.

Smarties Have The Answer

  • Excerpt: From playing this game you know that there is a bit of Shiny in it. Planet Moon is a group of ex-Shiny people, responsible for great, but unpopular games such as MDK and Sacrifice. Giants: Citizen Kabuto has what every Shiny game has, action, originality and humour. However it will also cursed with it not selling many copies, indeed, with only a few opinions of this game at the time of writing, is testimony enough.
  • Pros: Very funny
  • Cons: Quite tough, no in game save

3D psychedelic style gaming

depaiva, Ciao
12 March 2001
  • Excerpt: This game almost generates a new form of gaming genre with a mix of awkward humour and gun blasting action as well as elements of RTS and RPG gaming styles. The game involves mech type warriors, sea reapers, evil reapers and delphi’s in a constant battle to kill everything in sight. You choose from 3 different heroes, a Mec, a girl or a kabuto…all with their own special abilities and fighting skills. The 3D world is very immersive with impressive graphics and gameplay.
  • Pros: great graphics
  • Cons: unable to save

  • Excerpt: Giants gets this year off to a superb start. For starters, the graphics are stunning. Giants is a standard arcade adventure In the style of Outcast but this makes negotiating the 3D levels doubly enjoyable. The storyline is quite amusing. There is genuine variety in the gameplay, with three races of creature to choose from, all with different styles of combat and radically different appearances.
  • Pros: great graphics
  • Cons: none

  • Excerpt: This game was fun from beginning to end, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Starting of with a delightful menu screen with good lighting you are introduced into a game of strangeness. You begin as the Meccs who turn out to be some dozy cockney soldiers with holiday in mind. They are interrupted from there flight to there holiday break to join an adventure. Saving some little ugly minions from death, torture and pretty much stupidity.

  • Excerpt: Originality is sometimes treated very unfairly by us consumers. Don't believe me? Look at Looking Glass Software, the makers of the almighty Thief series, System Shock, Terra Nova and others. All of them were different to what people are used to. The company actually thought of new ideas and used them well, but did many people buy the games? Nope. That's why the company had to close down. Just for making something different.
