Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich
Game Over Online
28 March 2015
Excerpt: Freedom Force , released three years ago almost to the day, was a tactical strategy game involving superheroes. When “Energy X” canisters began falling on Patriot City, some of the city’s citizens used their newfound powers to do good -- and shortly formed the Freedom Force -- while others turned...
Excerpt: Freedom Force Vs. the Third Reich (Freedom Force 2) follows the original ( review ), which was released in 2002 by Irrational Games. Like the original, it features dozens of playable dynamic comic book heroes, fully interactive and destructible environments and an amazing story.
Summary: The original Freedom Force showed that superhero games could actually be fun. It took Silver Age 4-color heroes and dropped them seamlessly into squad-based, real time strategy. And it had the perfect blend of humor, cheese, and stylish game play. So how does the sequel stack up? Very well.
Summary: Freedom Force Vs The Third Reich is a fast-paced tactical role-playing game and will be available to play in both single- and multi-player modes. The graphics are radically enhanced by the introduction of a brand new 3D graphics engine (Gamebryo) which has allowed each character to be tweaked to...
A great story and a wonderful cast of characters are the highlights of this game, which anyone with an appreciation for comic books would probably love.

Summary: The original Freedom Force succeeded against all odds when it was released three years ago. For years prior, the possibility of a superhero-themed computer role-playing game was nothing more than a popular pipe dream. But Freedom Force made good on the promising concept.
Pros: Excellent story and characters, Simple, entertaining gameplay, Great presentation really captures the comic book feel, Skirmish, multiplayer, and superhero building features add replay value
Cons: Occasionally brain-dead enemy AI, Many elements lifted directly from the first game
Conclusion: I loved the often witty and colorful comments of my superheroes and enjoyed the comic book feel of the game. It helped me wear my underpants over my regular clothing with no shame. Go and buy the damn game, you'll thank me later. If you don't like it, you're an ass.
Pros: Everything except...
Cons: no mini-map, more actual uses for the destructible environment, any truly revolutionary features.
Conclusion: Style over substance? Certainly not. Although the game's visual style is a major part in its brilliance, the gameplay is also so enjoyable that it's an all-round high quality title that should appear in every PC gamer's collection.
