Summary: This game can be slow through certain levels as you have to struggle through a lot of questing to obtain simple basic nessesities. Later in the game as you unlock new jobs and areas it begins to get interesting again. Unfortunately, this game has a slower pace than most games of its type and frequently is plodding or boring as it forces you into inactivity or semi-inactivity for extended periods of time.
Summary: I have played all the Final Fantasy's so the nostalgic aspect of this game makes it very appealing to people who enjoyed the series. That being said, this is one of the hardest games I have played. One phrase will haunt you and will make you quit this game for days at a time when it happens: Experience and level loss. When you die you lose experience points (amount depends on level) and can delevel if your exp is too low.
Summary: FFXI is a cross-platform MMORPG with a control scheme to fit Playstation 2, PC and Xbox360. However I really can't stand the KB controls in the PC edition(the mouse is totally useless) and many people including one of the reviewers here feels the same way. The better contol schemes for this game requre you to hook up ether a Dual Schock 2 clone(something that functions just like a Playstation 2 controler) or the "Xbox360 controler for Windows".
Conclusion: Great game if you have bags of time and are a total final fantasy fan. Hard to gain levels past 20 solo and long waits for partys. Need lots of time to sit doing nothing. Crafts are great though!
Conclusion: I played Final Fantasy XI for just about a year so I hope I have a solid fondation to base my veiw of the game upon. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing better than getting together with a group of friends and general having fun. But this group based ideal which FF seems to cling to is also its downfall, being in a party is essential if you are to progress anywhere in the game.
