Summary: The installation process is long. Registration was painful. You need several id/handles and passwords, adding "options," signing up for several accounts... and just when you think you're ready to play, you're required to download a game update that takes 8 hours!
Summary: I had this game for years but I lost my disks to install. I paid another 20 dollars to get back on and start playing again. I would like to give the game a review but I don't know how well the game plays anymore. I never managed to get on the game. FFXI itself isn't a bad game, it is unfortunate that an incompetent greedy company runs it. A few problems I had. 1.) This game isn't completely compatible with Windows 7.
Summary: I have never been through a more painful installation process. WoW and many other MMO's force you to sit through hours and hours of downloads before you can play but they are all completely automated. This requires user input between every expansion. On top of that the registration process with PlayOnline is just as painful. Why is my PlayOnline ID some randomly generated code? I'll never remember that.
Summary: between the play online registration, the updates, the handful of usernames and passwords, and even having to provide your credit card, it has been 2 hours after installation finished and I still have not even begun playing (waiting for a two-thousand file update)... this is ridiculous.
Summary: Bad support! I called them 4 times and waited for about an hour. They need some sort of 3D credit card verification. Bank of America MasterCard is not supported. I had several level 75 jobs. You can tell how much time I invested :( I canceled my 3 accounts. I don't feel I missed it. I feel I enjoy my evening more after I quit.
Summary: One of my friends started playing this and I thought I would give it a try. This isn't a bad game, there are just some things that were really frustrating about it. I played it for about a month and cancelled it before I was billed the first time because I didn't think I would be playing it much. I like FF but I haven't played it for a while and am not a really big fan, so if you are a big FF you might like it more than I did.
Summary: Only huge Final fantasy fans will like this game. As it has nothing to do with any other FF game. To lv up at a point in the game you must have a party of 6. Which makes the game quite hard. Expect lots of waiting for parties/crying. This a MMORPG so it will naturally steal your soul. This game not recommended.
Summary: I've been a long time fan of Final Fantasy games, this was my first MMO too, got it when it first came out, around 2000 or so. It was ok at first but then it got real repeditive real fast. It is the same mobs and same levels all the time, just different difficulty mobs. the expansions that have come out for this are just a waste of money, maybe a few extra missions and quests, but all in all, its the same thing over and over.
Summary: I tried playing Final Fantasy XI a few times since it came out for PC (2003, maybe?) and I had to move on. The first time through, things really slowed down around level 18. You need to do a very annoying quest to get your "subjob," otherwise you're useless in parties. Also, around level 20, you make a crazy long and dangerous journey to a big city to get your chocobo, which involves you sitting down at your computer for 5 to 6 hours!
