The Electric Company

Jeremy Michael Gallen, RPGamer
1 March 2010
  • Excerpt: The eco-terrorist organization AVALANCHE is in conflict with the Shinra Corporation, which is draining the world's lifeforce with its Mako energy plants. Among its members is Cloud Strife, a warrior with a mysterious past and connections to an adversary named Sephiroth, who too bears a grudge against Shinra, albeit with vastly different motivations and ambitions.

Out of the Dark Ages

Marc Ruby™, Amazon
8 December 2004
  • Summary: I'm old enough to remember when RPGs weren't called RPGs. In those days the essence of the game was to move the players about a game board, fighting battles, collecting treasure, and finding clues. Origin's Ultima series was the grandparent of these games - immensely entertaining, but essentially two-dimensional. Among its heirs were the first games in the Final Fantasy line. This was also a time when computer capabilities and capacity seemed to double every few months.

A Classic PS1 Title On PC

Eihwaz, Amazon
21 July 2004
  • Summary: All the legendary RPG fun, but on PC. This version is really rare and hard to find; mine was borrowed from a friend. If you've never played FFVII, and see this somewhere, I'd pick it up. It's just as good as on PS1, especially given the fact that virtually any current computer can run it. It has everything a great RPG needs - strong characters, a great bad guy, some bumbling idiots, a great magic system, lots of sidequests, awesome cutscenes..

A Review Of The Computer Version...Not The Game Itself

"madmanlymichaelson", Amazon
20 August 2001
  • Summary: If you want to know what to think of Final Fantasy VII the game...where have you been??? The computer version is, at best, a nice version of FF7. Hey, I could play it on my laptop, so alright! But honestly, it's just sub-par to the PSX version. It's pre-rendered graphics are a bit fuzzy (essentially the background images) The character images are a little brighter and smoother, but then they feel out of place compared to the rest of the graphics.

A must for any Final fantasy fan.

"madmanlymichaelson", Amazon
29 November 1998
  • Summary: It may sound cliched and maybe even a bit old, but Final Fantasy VII is easily the absolute most critical piece of software any Final Fantasy or RPG fan may own. Originally released almost two years ago, FF7 outperforms any previous Squaresoft game. In its translation to the PC, Eidos did a good job, correcting a few minor spelling errors. However, and this is a big however, you need a massive machine in order to play the game well.

Final Fantasy 7

kingandy1..., Ciao
23 February 2007
  • Excerpt: "...The battle screen is traditional Final Fantasy, but the new Materia system (enabling the use of magic in battle) allow a degree of customisation. The main value of this game is the flexibility. There are many sub-quests and side-stories that, while optional (if you are aiming for a quick-complete game), really add to the plot and character's backgrounds, as well as make them more powerful. In short, this is a great game that I have enjoyed ...
  • Pros: Very well thought of storyline
  • Cons: A bit too easy

Fantasy to another dimension

shane1090, Ciao
14 June 2002
  • Excerpt: "...did a superb job with Final Fantasy VII (FF7), the massive role-playing hit for the Sony Playstation. One of the best things about FF7 is the extremely intriguing story-line. The player plays Cloud, an ex-Soldier for the evil Shinra Inc., now a mercenary. His first job is to help Avalanche, a rebel group against Shinra, to blow-up one of their reactors. These reactors are sucking the Mako energy from the Earth, and the Earth is slowly dying. At ...
  • Pros: Brilliant storyline, and FMV's
  • Cons: Poor graphics at todays standards

A review of FFVII

petrasol, Ciao
20 July 2000
  • Excerpt: "This game is massive. Just when you think you are near the end you are asked to pop disc 2 in. Then you realise that there are 3 game discs in total and many more hours of play before this one is finished. You assume the role of Cloud, a mercenary who teams up with a renegade group in a bid to save the planet. Gaining experience, exploring and turn based combat are the order of the day. And it is beautifullyput together. Some of the sub-quests ...
  • Pros: Huge, huge game
  • Cons: Poor translation/midi sound
