Summary: F1 2013 is a superb racing game let down by shoddy AI and questionable difficulty settings. The AI can only be described as primitive, weak, inconsistent and predictable which deviates from purist racing. The new physics model is a vast improvement which responds better to your reactions. Additionally, the mid-save feature eliminates those frustrations during longer races and is essential to your enjoyment.
Excerpt: I'm not really a huge racing fan. Not into Nascar. Not really into Formula 1 either, though I think Ron Howard's new movie, Rush , looks pretty good. That said, when it comes to racing games, I usually tolerate them. The majority of my experience comes from titles like Forza , Gran Turismo and Need for Speed , so Codemasters' F1 2013 is my first experience with a game solely devoted to these high-speed, open-wheeled race cars.
Conclusion: The menue looks awesome and the gaming modes are ( still ) diversified. But on the other hand we still have to accept that Codemasters did nothing to improve fair competition neither in time attack or time trial nor in Multiplayer. Hopefully you liked my review. If so, please rate or comment it and if not, please tell me why.
Conclusion: F1 2013 is a dynamic and varied simulation then, and that’s not a compliment that could readily be aimed at too many of its forebears. There is an element of treading water as Codemasters gets ready for the inevitable shift to new console hardware and racing technology in the next F1 season, but this is nevertheless an accomplished and hugely entertaining entry in the series.
Excerpt: Much like Sebastian Vettel’s unchallenged run of victories, Codemasters’ F1 series is beginning to take it easy through a lack of competition. Despite offering an array of legendary drivers from across the 1980s and ‘90s, this year’s progress isn’t loaded with enough fuel to capture the attention of those who think Toro Rosso and Eau Rouge are two selections from Dulux’s upcoming Autumn range.
Summary: If last year's Formula One game made Codemasters' series more accessible, then F1 2013 addresses the time commitment required to enjoy it. The addition of shorter challenge modes, coupled with some interesting departures into the sport's history, makes this year's edition much less intimidating. The bulk of the experience will be familiar to series veterans, but F1 2013 is a varied game that accurately mirrors the tension and excitement of F1 racing.
Pros: Exciting on-track action, Scenario mode caters to shorter play sessions, Classic mode offers up a different, thoroughly nostalgic challenge, Looks and sounds even more authentic than before
Cons: Only a handful of classic cars and tracks in the standard edition
Summary: F1 2013 is a great game – the best of the series thus far, in fact. For racing fans without last year's game, its acquisition is a no-brainer. However, those with F1 2012 are encouraged to try before buying. There are few changes on last year's formula and Classic Mode's potential vastly outweighs its offering this time around.
Pros: The outstanding gameplay from last year has been further refined. Better weather effects. The retro cars are enormous fun. Mid-race saves are available.
Cons: The Classic mode feels like a tease. There is little else to entice last year's crowd to repurchase.
Excerpt: Ron Howard's newest film, Rush, captures the intensity of Formula One racing and the heated competition between rivals. With this in mind, fans hoping to get a taste of the experience can play Codemasters' F1 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. This fast-paced racer lacks the movie's star power, but makes up for that with high-speed Formula One cars packing 18,000rpm, an electrically powered boost button that delivers an extra 80bhp on demand and plenty of...
Pros: 80s and 90s vehicles, complete with broadcast tweaks., Outstanding controls., No shortage of high-speed thrills.
Cons: 90's nostalgia costs extra., Incremental upgrades over the 2012 version., No sign of McLaren.
Excerpt: Codemasters F1 series returns for its latest instalment with F1 2013 . This is a game not necessarily for racing enthusiasts, but this is the game for the F1 enthusiast. This is the most authentic game not only in its genre, but one of the most authentic games on the market. Let’s find out why.
Pros: +As authentic of an F1 racing experience as you are going to get
