Summary: Started playing this game in Dutch and thought it wasn't bad at all. But then things went wrong. I stopped, did some other stuff and restarted the game. The inventory (ao I had holy water) was empty and I started in front of the house again. The list of objects was there, but written all over it was that I was finished here, making most of the names of wanted objects illegible.
Summary: I thought this game was pretty good. Graphics were nice. Scenes were well drawn and items appropriate for the era. Even the animation in the cut scenes, although simple, were good and it enhanced the atmosphere of the game. The music choice, ambient sound, effects and animation were alright and they didn't disappoint. The voice acting were ok too. I found lots of players love to nitpick on the voice acting but this one was alright, nothing annoying.
Summary: I tried to deal with this game to a certain degree but alas, I couldn't take it any longer. From the annoying evil laugh, the tiny hidden objects, finding torn pieces of paper, and the hallelujah after you pieced the puzzle together got to me. I played this for a bit last night and couldn't take it tonight. I uninstalled it faster than I did any game. It's not really challenging at all.
Summary: I really enjoyed this game -- it has all the qualities I like in a game. There is no timer -- hint refills quickly and the game is interesting and challenging at the same time. The voices and sound effects don't bother me, because I turn them off - to me they distract from the game. I did read all of the story the first time I played the game and it is a good one with a real finish, not a hanger on like some games.
Summary: I must admit that some details jarred : the acting voices apart from Gareth (oh the phony Scottish-peasant-whatever accent!) and the Hallejuah was a bit too much. But on the whole I enjoyed the game. The atmosphere was creepy enough, the puzzles were adequate and the difficulty of the search was challenging enough. It is also a beautiful game with much to do. For once the story is not bad even if not groundbreaking.
Summary: I had an ok time playing the first 3-4 rounds I was actually able to play. The pieces were tiny to find- some of them I had no idea what they were (those were ok, I could get around them with hints- then when it would light up I'd go "why didn't they just call it 'blah' instead of this random word..." oh well). Music was creepy, game was ok, but an automatic -1 star for having to find pieces of paper.
Summary: Pros: Moody, atmospheric graphics and audio; good puzzles and tasks; great story; replayable Cons: Spotty voiceovers; "Hallelujah" sound effect; excruciatingly tiny objects I was pleasantly surprised to see they completely re-recorded the voiceovers from their 'word for word' bad localization in the beta, to excellent, well spoken language, one could actually understand. The actor who portrayed the protagonist was excellent, however most of the others...not so much.
Summary: I didn't care for this game. The dialogue was long. My editing instinct kicked in and all I could think of were ways to make the text shorter. Also, and not like it matters really, but the intro was confusing. Was he recounting a past event? The Hint music was ridiculous. It's just a hint, not the second coming. Every demon's laugh was the same. And I think at some point, the developers forgot the game elements.
Summary: I really, really, REALLY wanted to love this game. I was totally ready to, too - it promised to be spooky without being as gory as the "Redrum" series, maybe a little adventurous, just all-around fun. The voice acting - as the main review indicated - was a bit up and down; I *adored* the lead actor's voice, but found the others a bit... overwrought. "High school Dracula production" indeed fits; so does "AmDram," sad to say.
Summary: I really liked the first 2 scenes and it reeled me in as a buyer but I should have read the "technical error" page of the game portal: its a buggy game that left a swathe of crashed computers on its way to the bank with our money. It crashed mine, too. Not wounded badly, now healing.
