  • Summary: When you view a painting by Van Gogh, you don’t compare it to another painting by Van Gogh—you compare it to every other painting in the world. I will not compare the achievements and failings of EverQuest II to the first EverQuest.

GameSpot

  • Summary: EverQuest wasn't the first game of its kind when it was released in 1999, but it was the best, and remained the best for a long time. Along with Ultima Online, it deserves credit for popularizing the massively multiplayer online role-playing genre, and it's still widely played to this day.
  • Pros: Impressive presentation., Wide assortment of character races and classes., Lots of quests; an initially significant amount of content to explore.
  • Cons: Resource hog; some poor performance even on fast machines., No player vs. player component., Fairly conventional; get ready for the online RPG grind.
