Summary: To begin with I hated this game when I first got it. I am accustomed to my regular strategy games where u build your armies and go fight the enemy on a large scale. But this game didn't offer the same pattern and was initially annoying. After almost a year I decided to give this game a try just to see if I would understand the mindset behind creating such a game............I'm glad I did. The game got me hooked I tell ya, Hooked.
Summary: Elven Legacy is a solid, strategic, challenging hex based SRPG that doesn't stray too far from the fundamentals of the genre. It's developed by 1c company, the largest Russian developer/publisher, and it's a PC game, which might explain the games complete lack of popularity here in NA. It's the sequel to Fantasy Wars, which is more or less identical in SRPG mechanics. It bears the most resemblance to the open source SRPG game The Battle for Wesnoth.
Summary: Over the years, solid turn-based strategy games have fallen by the wayside in favor of real-time strategy games. Companies seemed to have stopped producing TBS games simply because RTS games sell better. I chuckled as I read somewhere recently, in criticism of recent games, 'why make a great game when a good one will sell better?
Summary: As a new player of strategy games coming from the love of the RPG I admit loving Elven Legacy. First even without customization of character it has the 3D look I enjoy as well as the 'unit look' needed for such a game. The controls are very simple to learn and understand and I have already gotten to the 3rd mission of my first campaign without feeling any frustration whatsoever with the playeability of the game.
