Summary: My experience with this game was being somewhat positive, until the problems started to show up. To begin with, the tutorials should be more complete, there're many details that aren't mentioned and you have to learn through trial and error. I can live with that, after all, whoever lived in the 80's knows what is to bear the fact that there wasn't such thing besides the manuals.
I would like it....if it were easy to use or worked well

Summary: I recently received this game as a present and was eager to get into it. After (pretty boring, as game tutorials go) tutorials, I was ready to play, but the interface with the game is very hard to get accustomed to. Or there is some sort of bug which makes only 50% of my right or left clicks actually work. As a result, battle is near impossible. There is a steep learning curve (knowing the difference between a cutter, a sloop, etc.
Summary: First off, let me begin by saying most people who gave this game a bad rating were probably expecting a blood and guts shoot em' up type naval warfare game. Yes, the game does have great naval battles, but there is a lot more substance to the game than just the battles, which is probably why some people didn't like it. There's a lot of economic strategy involved if you want to succeed in the game, which makes sense as the game is about what its title suggests.
Summary: Please, everyone! Play this game! It is really good! I prefer it to every other PC game! Choose your country, build pacts and forge alliances. Break them, fight other nations, start wars. Capture Indian ports and win the game! Buy and sell goods, to be the richest nation on the Whole East Indian Company! PS: Be aware of pirates...they are hard to stop...
Summary: This would not work on my computer. I am using Windows XP and Windows 7 and I am fairly proficient at installing programs and solving any problems. I could not get it to run on my PC (Windows XP) or my new laptop (Windows 7).
Summary: Now I've played some strategy games in my day but this one has got me - I got insanely frustrated with it months ago and now it just sits in the corner but for anyone with some patience I am sure this game could be some real fun if you devote some time to learning how to play and the tutorial was unhelpful or at least for me - I wouldn't buy it unless you just feel like spending money.
Summary: For [...], this is one helluva game. I do need to add a disclaimer, though -- this game is not for everyone. If you enjoy turn-based strategy, trading, tycoon-type, historical games, this one is probably gonna be pretty fun for you. It isn't actually a turn-based game, but I play it like one to micromanage everything, from upgrading ports, timing my departures and arrivals, etc.
Summary: This is a addictive and fun game for people who like history and don't mind figuring out a few things along the way. The battles have a lot of detail and are entertaining. The games takes a little bit of thinking about the 1600's and how they were trading at the time. The game is not always completely intuitive and I had to do play with it to figure-out how some things worked. But if you don't mind a little trial and error as you play, you will enjoy the game.
