Summary: You are a prospective dungeon lord who is trying to build the best dungeon and defend it against those pesky heroes. While the euro mechanics of this game is extremely well-done, many found the combat mechanics to be too much of a puzzle. The optimal way to fight the heroes is often tough to find and that infuriates some elitist gamers. On the other hand, people new to designer games can find the mechanics tough to understand and too hard to even learn.
Summary: I was surprised that I didn't dislike Dungeon Lords. I'm not normally a fan of worker placement, and that's half the game. Nor do I love optimization puzzles, which is the other half. But the theme weaves together the complex ruleset, so I can look past the design and enjoy the experience. Scoring, however, is so abstract, so balancing, that it's hard to know what a winning strategy is, let alone how to pursue it. That's a problem for me.
Dungeon Lords is a great game...once you learn how to play.

Summary: I'll start off by saying that Dungeon Lords is one of the most complex games I own and that it can be very difficult to explain to people who have never played it before and they can end up getting overwhelmed. That being said it's also probably one of the funnest games to play. There are so many games out there where you are the adventurer questing into a dungeon full of monsters and creatures. While those are fun and all they do tend to get a bit stale after a while.
As a fan of Dungeon Keeper; I'm tickled pink by the homage to the original PC game; but don't let the 'cute' graphics fool you. There's a serious game here, with quite a lot of thinking required.

Summary: Dungeon Lords is a very hard game to teach and learn. I would recommend giving a very brief intro and then jumping straight into the game. Even for a decent player, it can take 5-6 games to completely learn how to play Dungeon Lords. However, the process is usually fun and entertaining and not too frustrating. And once you finally get the game fully, you can appreciate it all the more.

Summary: Opening the box of dungeon lords can be a little overwhelming. There is a lot of cardboard to punch out, everything has a color or a symbol on it and there is also a ton of wooden pieces as well as the cute little imps for the ladies. Reading the manual is a little arduous, and should definitely be done before you whip it out and decide to play with your friends.
Summary: Dungeon Lords is an interesting game that can almost take as long to explain to new players as it will take to play the first year, but once they get it they will fall in love with it. As with most Czech Games Dungeon Lords comes with a lengthy rule book with witty comments thrown in to lighten the read.
The first thing that strikes you about this game is the artwork and the components. If you have played any of the other Czech games you will know what to expect.
Conclusion: I found dungeon lords to be a very good game indeed. Massive game with lots of plots and quests and kept me playing for hours and hours. Quite a strange storyline, but very intense and loads of action along the way, from killing goblins to snakes to demons, all in all fantastic value for money if you are a serious role playing games person.
