Duke Nukem Forever (PC) Review – Junk Food For The Soul

Brainlazy
9 March 2012
  • Conclusion: Again, the over all feeling of the game is mixed.  You have some parts that feel complete in an isolated sense but nothing that is gelling it all together.  There was plenty of times that I thought to myself, “Oh that’s pretty cool”.  But it existed as a bauble.  Perhaps this is the only way a Duke Nukem game can exist.  It’s base form is a hodgepodge of awesome imitations.  A collection of “That’s cool” ideas without a narrator.

Duke Nukem Forever Benchmarks : 3D Vision Tested on all NVIDIA 500 Series Video Cards

Hi Tech Legion

  • Summary: With a heavily customized Unreal engine, Duke Nukem Forever ran excellent on every video card we tested with the various settings. Frame rates were high and, even in 3D mode, things ran smooth. I was impressed with the GPU performance. Ultra settings had no problems with the higher end cards at 19x10 resolution. For an aged game that was heavily modified, it actually looked quite good at all settings.

Duke Nukem Forever Review

maximum pc
7 July 2011
  • Excerpt: Near the beginning of Duke Nukem Forever, you make your way through a bona fide Duke Nukem museum. Statues, paintings, fourth-wall-shattering tributes to Duke’s greatest hits—the place nearly has it all. And we say “nearly” because one thing is missing from that perfume-scented love letter to Duke’s past: Duke Nukem Forever itself. Play for a bit longer, though, and it’s not hard to see why.
  • Pros: Ego meter is clever; a couple fun sections.
  • Cons: Bad pacing; terrible humor; crummy level design.

  • Conclusion: On the positive side, the game did not seem to disappoint in terms of the gameplay and performance. Duke Nukem Forever offers a variety of different side games in order to distract the player from the main plot and provide a little bit of freedom inside the single player mode. Otherwise, the players are restricted to simply following the plot.

  • Conclusion: There's one question you must ask yourself before buying this game and that's, well: "Why should I buy this game?" The only possible reason we can think of is that you're a hardcore Duke Nuke fan, desperately hungry for an old-fashioned first-person shooter with ancient gameplay mechanics, in addition to absurd and half-baked mostly unfunny witticisms spewed out by the central character.
  • Pros: If you're drowning in a murky puddle of FPS nostalgia, Duke Nukem Forever might keep you interested for a few hours;
  • Cons: Games have gone beyond what's on offer here, the humor and gameplay belong in another time.
