Hector Episode 3: Beyond Reasonable Doom (PC) - Review

VGChartz
30 September 2011
  • Excerpt: Beyond Reasonable Doom is the third and final episode of Telltale Games’ revolting yet entertaining Hector: Badge of Carnage series. The identity of the elusive terrorist has been revealed, and he plans to unleash a biological weapon at the Clapper’s Wreake Festival, or Clapfest, an event which he has organised allegedly to improve the image of the run-down, crime-ridden town.

  • Excerpt: In this long-awaited installment of the Doom series from id, it's time to be afraid. Be very afraid. You will be. Unless you've been living in a cave for most of your life, you've heard of Doom . I remember Doom . I remember shooting waves and waves of monsters down. I remember I was always in God mode: I was too afraid to try anything else. Well Doom 3 has taken that fear factor and multiplied it. By a billion. And two. First of all, I've got to mention the graphics.

  • Conclusion: Should you own Doom 3? You have to, or you are a traitor to everything computer geekish. Although I feel that Doom 3 missed its mark by investing all of its sell-ability in touting itself as a homage to the original and ending up being nothing more than a slick 1993 shooter, this is a landmark game engine. Id produced Doom 3 for the sole purpose showcasing the new engine's abilities to the world- especially the game developer's world.

  • Excerpt: Here lies a game that was both years in the making, as well as done over 10 years ago. Doom 3 is not a new sequel to help round out the trilogy of games which takes gamers to hell and back, but a re-imagining of the game that helped create this whole fixation with a little of the old ultra-violence in games that some deem unnecessary.

Review: Doom 3 - PC

  • Excerpt: The dust is settling. The hype machine has finally passed its climax and those critics who didn't rush their reviews out during this time period finally have their say. I, like some of you, received my copy of Doom 3 on release day and raced home with a child-like anticipation. Of course, this is especially weird for me since I was in no way, shape or form a fan of the original run-n-gun shooter.

  • Conclusion: Lesser spec machines will be able to cripple detail levels to get by, but that's all you'll be doing... getting by. This game was made to be impactful and frightening, and Kreese's law of relativity states that for every frame per second your PC drops under 25, the less scared you can be from a video game. I'd go as far as to suggest that if you're hovering on the year old plus video card/CPU mark, save single player until you can afford to upgrade. Multiplayer?
