Summary: I loved playing the game years ago in DOS on my computer and thought I would try it again after all these years. I read reviews on the dvd for a pc before I purchased and I did see a few reviews that said they had trouble getting the game to work and I hesitated ordering. Then I gave in and ordered and I can't get the damn thing to work either!
Pros: Probably okay if you like using "Steam" to play your games.
Cons: You can't just put this game in and install it to your computer like I am used to. You have to install "Steam" first and create a "Steam" account from the internet. Then you have to sign into "Steam" to play the game. Installation was very slow. I quit the insallation and will try to sell the game online. I'm steamed!
Pros: Fast shipping from Newegg. Great support service from Newegg.
Cons: Game software is not on the dvd. the disk installs software to create an on line account with Steam Distribution. If you are lucky, you will figure out how to download the game software from here. However, the game software would not install. This is a Windows 7 game trying to install on a Windows 7 machine. Not much of a bargain, but not Newegg's fault. Who knew you need to deal with the Steam distributor? Newegg had no problem issueing a refund.
No reason to purchase this version if you already own Doom 3

Summary: Very let down, this feels like a quick console port cash in. I expected higher resolution textures but theyre exactly the same as the 8 year old original version except for some of the faces in the game. Thats it. Any textures that have writing are literally unreadable and a blurry mess when up close. Theres also no configuration options in the options menu aside from changing the resolution and applying 2x or 4x AA. Nothing else.
Summary: With Doom 3 BFG Edition you get these improvements: 16:9 HUD for Doom 3 Improved sound quality for Doom 3 Here is the cons with BFG: No dynamic lighting No Parallax mapping No option for original flashlight style A nonsensical version of the flashlight that would even make people who liked the duct tape mod upset Enemies often lack reactions to bullet fire so the guns feel off TONS of glitches that were not in the original especially with the Doom 3 expansion RoE locked...
Horrible. The graphics are WORSE than the original

Summary: Save your money and get the original Doom 3 instead. Its cheaper, looks better, and also supports modding which BFG does not.
Pros: New features: Achievements, 3d support, new faces on characters, and tweaked lighting (aka brighter rooms)
Cons: The textures are actually worse than the original game. Ive compared screenshots taken in the same resolution and settings, and the Original Doom 3 has slightly higher resolution textures than BFG does. For a game thats being advertised as an HD remake with upgraded and remastered visuals, this is a blatant lie. Id software should be ashamed at this quick cash in
