Excerpt: Delta Force: Black Hawk Down review Game Over Online - http://www.game-over.com Somalia, 1993 . Delta Force, US Army Rangers and 10th Mountain Division begin 'Task Force Ranger' and 'Operation Restore Hope' campaigns with a view toward removing two top lieutenants of a Somali warlord inside Mogadishu.
Excerpt: Delta Force: Black Hawk Down is tactical first-person shooter based upon and around the Operation Restore Hope and Task Force Ranger campaigns and follows members of the elite Delta Force, the US 75th Ranger Regiment, the 10th Mountain Division, and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment as they participate in a number of daring raids against the oppressive Somali warlords in and around Mogadishu.
Conclusion: In war games as in life, it's best to choose your battles wisely, and there are worthier ones than Delta Force to fight.
Pros: The immediacy of street combat—where the enemy lurks around corners and alleyways and in windows overhead—often lends
Cons: Sniper rifles fire with pinpoint accuracy, emphasis on "pin." Even when locked onto the enemy at 100 meters with sights activated, it sometimes takes several shots to take him down. Conversely, it doesn't take much more than a couple of stray bullets to extinguish your fragile mortality.
Excerpt: Delta Force Black Hawk Down is an arcade-style shooter set in contemporary Somalia. As the title suggests, the game's plot is based loosely around the United States' peacekeeping operations in the eastern African nation in the early 1990s. The most infamous incident of that operation involved the downing of an American transport helicopter.
Pros: Lots of players for online play, Wide variety of real-life weapons
Cons: Dull campaign, Substandard AI, Vehicles not drivable in multiplayer, Poor squad-control interface
Excerpt: A long time ago, when I was less demanding with my games and still new to the PC scene, I enjoyed a FPS shooter called Delta Force . The realistic gameplay enthralled me, even though the only ìrealismî consisted of dying in a few shots and fighting with a squad of soldiers in larger-than-life levels. A year ago I decided to try out Delta Force: Task Force Dagger , remembering the enjoyment I got out of the original.
Excerpt: While many may be confused by the title as having some relation to the movie or book, the game has nothing to do with the movie. Novalogic has created a game, which is centered on operations carried out by the 10th mountain division (light infantry) and members of Task Force Ranger (US Army Rangers and Delta Force). The peacekeeping mission was known as Operation Restore Hope.
Conclusion: As in previous Delta Force games, Black Hawk Down's AI is extremely poor. The supposedly "elite" Delta Force and Ranger troops shoot each other, push you into the line of fire, and repeatedly miss targets literally right in front of them. Their aim is so atrocious that they can actually walk right past an enemy in a narrow tunnel and not hit their target. The Somali fighters are just as bad.
