Summary: Introversion Software and Encore present, DEFCON, a stunning online multiplayer simulation of global thermonuclear war. You play the role of a military Commander hidden deep within an underground bunker. Your mission - to successfully exterminate your enemy's civilian population whilst disabling their ability to attack your own. Start by launching your battleships, subs and bombers in order to decimate your opponent's defenses.
Conclusion: DEFCON is one of those games that is very easy to learn but hard to master. dont be fooled by the graphics either, this for me is one of the greatest RTS games out there. I often spend 3 to 4 hours playing this every other night, if you want to have a look at what the game looks like just pop over to youtube and have a look. as i said before the controls are easy to pick up but getting a strategy to work takes practice.
Conclusion: I've had Defcon for several years, and even tho I'm not particularly good at it I still really enjoy playing it. For such a simple premise the game really captures your attention, and the visuals are good. If you've ever watched Wargames you'll feel right at home. The background soundtrack fits the theme perfectly - in that it's very dark and grim, sounds of people suffering from radiation sickness etc.
Conclusion: Download the demo (it's only 60mb, as is the game iself) from Introversion - if you like it, buy it, if not, then don't. Basically if you like Civ or any of the slower RTS games then this is for you. Unless you're a freakin' chimp or something....
Conclusion: A hauntingly entertaining game where no-one wins, but you must try to lose the least while raking up megadeaths as you nuke your enemy into oblivion. Utulising retro graphics that give it that arcade-y feel and reminiscent of "big boards" from various war rooms give it an air of Cold War nostalgia, it's very beautifully simple and simply beautiful.
