Summary: At this time the game is almost no longer supported by EA. so don't bother installing it. you will only get an error. you can however contact Origin Customer service (have to create an Origin account) and with the serial number from the box they will add it to an Origin account and with the Origin Client you can download and play the game. but the installed from the box game will only give you an error as its looking for Maxim Servers and there are none.

Summary: Bought this a while ago for my son, but never installed it because he had an older xp system. I just spent 6+hours putting it on his new windows 8 computer. CD install was slow, EA's server timed out twice when trying to connect to it, updates were at a painful speed, but the big PITA was registering. He has the required EA account, but Darkspore didn't recognize it, or the product's activation code.
Summary: Darkspore is a wonderful idea poorly executed, instead of taking all the customization that there is in spore for this game, you start out with a pre-made hero at the beginning and not even a very interesting one at that. The controls are basic, which isn't much of a problem because there isn't much to control, also the server for the game(no option for offline play) is unreliable and slow, with EA maintaining the option to stop supporting the server if it gets too...
Excellent ARPG ruined by always online requirement and lack of support

Summary: UPDATE: Surprisingly, despite the lack of updates, support, player community, the Error 3 issue is resolved, likely due to a server reset which would need to be done regularly anyways. It could have been damage control as EA has been voted the worst company of the year twice, and they were in the news for temporarily removing the game from Steam. Error 3 is fixed, but the remainder of the review is still valid.
