Excerpt: It's Zelda meets God of War meets Tomb Raider meets Soul Reaver. Darksiders appeared to be another hack 'n' slash clone, developed in an attempt to appeal to the God of War fan base, but it's actually an action adventure game far more diverse, offering combat, platforming, puzzles, exploration and a whole heap of collectable items. While this huge variety makes Darksiders something of a rare breed these days, it does come at a slight cost to the quality of certain areas.
Excerpt: Darksiders is the latest multi-console title from THQ. Set to be released during the first week of January, we were lucky enough to get a copy of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions to review prior to its official launch. I had a opportunity to preview the game in early December and I have finally had the chance to play the final review code of this action/RPG hybrid.
You Can't Make an Apocalypse Without Breaking a Few Seals
1 March 2010
Excerpt: What would happen if Ganondorf successfully wiped Hyrule off the face of the earth before Link started his inevitable journey to stop him? That's not quite what Vigil Games did with their action-adventure title Darksiders , but it's pretty darn close. Taking undeniable cues from Nintendo's acclaimed Legend of Zelda series, Darksiders is a blatant copy-cat game. But it's a damn good one.
Excerpt: The original Darksiders , which came out in 2010, suffered from the lack of its own identity. It copied far too much from other popular games without really creating anything original. Even though you won’t find any new original ideas in Darksiders 2 , it still manages to be a fresh experience that is a faithful nod to old school gaming.
Excerpt: A new year brings new games to look forward to. Thankfully 2010 starts with a bang as Darksiders hits. Granted it's a game about the apocalypse with you facing the forces of Heaven and Hell as War, one of the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse, but what a way to start the New Year! From all the screenshots and videos you'd be forgiven if you thought "Ah God of War ." You'd be wrong... sort of.
Pros: Nice fluid combat., Looks great., Fantastic character design.
Cons: Some Head-slapping puzzles., May have borrowed too much.
Excerpt: Being a fan of the console version, my excitement for the PC edition was palpable. Having rediscovered the joys of PC gaming not long ago, Vigil’s adventurous take on the trials and tribulations of War - one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse - felt like an instant classic since adventure games aren’t the most popular genre on the said platform.
