Summary: I love this game!!! It is dark, atmospheric...has creepy music...perfect for playing late at night by yourself. I got engrossed in the story, and there are books you can actually read in the game that give you more information. It's sort of a point and click game, but you still have quite a bit of freedom to search your environment. It's an older game, I don't know how I never heard of it before!
Summary: Honestly when i first bought this game i was thinking it was a horror survivor game freely roaming around creepy places to get a good scare. Not knowing it was a point-click game and all along in the game having to find clues and solve puzzles. So i was a little disappointed that it was not what i thought it was going to be.
Summary: NOTE - Because Amazon has 2 separate product pages for this game, I am posting the review on both. I bought "Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder" on a whim, not knowing much about it and not expecting much from it. It definitely surprised me with some truly horrifying scenes, which I loved, but it also let me down with a horribly done story in addition to some other issues.
Summary: I really enjoyed this game. I loved the story and I didn't spend anytime wandering around aimlessly. If you pay attention to everything, you can figure out where to go next. The puzzles were easy enough to figure out without a walkthrough. I did get a little sea sick at first, but it stopped after a few minutes when I figured out to control my mouse movements and speed. I didn't much care for the ending though.
Summary: All in all, I had a good time playing this game. The story and the objectives are pretty much clear. So, I don't know why someone would end up walking around aimlessly. If you pay attention from the beginning, you'll know what to do. It's a typical adventure. The story has a little twist of weird in it, especially towards the end, but that seems to be popular lately. This isn't meant to be a realistic story. Besides, I found the small changes a little refreshing.
Summary: This game was a huge disappointment. After reading the description I decided to take the plunge and buy it (no free trial with this one) because I was ready for something other than another Hidden Objects game. The storyline sounded intriguing, the screen shots looked good, so I figured this would be a lot of fun. But not so. First of, it made me seriously motion-sick.
Excerpt: Released in 2007, Darkness Within is a point-and-click adventure of the kind generally not made any more, absorbing, intelligent games nowadays being eschewed in favour of lowest-common-denominator efforts like Gears of War and Halo instead. Darkness Within sees you take up the role of a private investigator who was taken on the case of the mysterious disappearance of a man who, it soon becomes apparent, became involved in a dark and mysterious Lovecraftian universe of...
Pros: brilliant visuals, engaging puzzles, great voice acting, great story, atmospheric as hell
Cons: They dont make enough games like this any more
