Dark Fall: Lost Souls

Just Adventure
28 June 2012
  • Excerpt: Dark Fall 3: Lost Souls (DF3) is a classic. In fact, it is a double classic. It is both a classic adventure game and a classic ghost story. You might think, because this is Dark Fall 3, that the story is the third part of a series. But that is not the case. All three stories are quite independent and can be played in any order. This story takes place in an abandoned hotel/train station in England. This is the same station which was in DF1, but several years have passed.

Review: Dark Fall: Lost Souls (PC European Import)

Diehard GameFAN
28 October 2010
  • Summary: Dark Fall: Lost Souls is not a bad game, but it IS a drastic drop in quality from the other games developed by Darkling Room. The game is technically sound, with a well made engine that lacks a lot of the slowdown issues that can grip other panoramic adventures games and there are some novel controls for pieces of the game.

Dark Fall: Lost Souls

Hooked Gamers

  • Conclusion: Despite what might seem to be more negatives than positives, I really did enjoy my struggles with Dark Fall: Lost Souls . My husband and cats will attest to that fact. I was so gripped in the story and clue finding that when the game did send one of its ‘whammies’ my way, I screeched, I jumped; I even freaked out when MY cell phone started vibrating at one point.

  • Conclusion: In the end, I walked away from the game satisfied. There are few designers in the industry today that can match Jonathan Boakes’ ability to conjure a location so fully and convincingly, populate it with texture and history, and then use it to scare the bejeezus out of you. The control enhancements still leave a few lingering navigation issues, but the added layer of polish does the game wonders, and Dowerton Station has never been more believable.

Dark Fall: Lost Souls - PC - Review

GameZone
27 December 2009
  • Excerpt: In today’s age of big-budget, flashy games with huge art teams and fancy physics engines, Dark Fall: Lost Souls feels like a throwback to an earlier era of gaming. Even by adventure game standards, Lost Souls feels simplistic. The environments are mostly flat backgrounds. You can only turn at 90-degree angles. There’s minimal voice work and even less animation. Strictly from a gameplay perspective, you’ve probably experienced more complex games in the extras of a DVD.

Or, Why Children Are Terrifying

Game Debate
18 December 2009
  • Excerpt: The horror adventure genre has been almost single-handedly sustained of late by a Brit called Jonathan Boakes, who most recently spooked us with The Lost Crown, a gadget-heavy ghostfest that pre-empted Paranormal Activity’s ‘let’s set up cameras and capture scary crap happening’ plotline. Mr Boakes not only writes these games, he also designs, develops, animates, produces and voices the main characters, sometimes with a little help from family members and pets.
  • Pros: Involving & atmospheric, Intuitive, varied puzzles, Bloody scary
  • Cons: Linear progression, Fixed perspective, Evil hotspots

Dark Fall : Lost Souls

Game-Focus
2 March 2014

  • Pros: Sterk verhaal, Sfeervolle omgevingen, Lekker puzzelen

Dark Fall: Lost Souls
