Set in the World War II era, the Company of Heroes single player campaign puts the player in charge of U.S. military units from the 101st Airborne and the 29th Infantry Division. The player takes part in major US operations in the Battle of Normandy such as D-Day, Battle of Carentan, Operation Cobra and others.
With Company of Heroes, the player can play with up to 8 players via LAN or Internet. For this game, the developers used an online gaming system called Relic Online instead of GameSpy Arcade and World Opponent Network, which they have previously used for other games. Relic Online brought new features such as a ranking system and automatch.
When playing multiplayer, players can choose between either Allied of Axis military forces. The game offers Victory Point Control and Annihilation game modes.
This PC game runs Windows XP and Windows Vista. It requires at least a 2.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or an AMD Athlon XP processor, a graphics card with a minimum 64 megabytes of VRAM and support for DirectX 9 with Pixel Shader 1.1, and 512 megabytes of RAM.
Relic Entertainment has also come out with an expansion pack for Company of Heroes called Opposing Fronts. This expansion adds German Panzer Elite and British forces. Another expansion pack, Tales of Valor, is scheduled for release in 2009.

With Supreme Commander still incubating until next year, this seems to be the RTS to own. Incredible graphics, killer sound, fully destructible environments and an enormous depth of strategy make this a compelling game for arm chair generals. The elegant balance of units and effectiveness of combined arms with various doctrines dictating combat style also make this a sure bet as a contender for professional gaming. An amazing effort for a company that is likely to take... Read more
If this game doesn’t totally blow you away, you must be missing your awesome gene. Building off of the best recent innovations in real-time strategy, Company of Heroes does for the WWII RTS what Medal of Honor and Call of Duty did in the FPS arena – make it real. The intensity of action delivered in every firefight, artillery strike, and tank battle is unmatched in any other similar game I’ve encountered. Enemies and allies alike naturally recognize cover and its... Read more
1998. A memorable year for gaming, especially for PC gamers. What came out that year? Grim Fandango, Thief, Half-life, and Starcraft. Ah, Starcraft. The first and last RTS I every truly loved; I would play that game religiously day after day until it finally became tiring for me and I moved on to other games. But after Starcraft, I must say that no RTS excited me anymore; Warcraft 3, Rise of Nations, Rome: Total War, Warhammer... All fantastic games, yet I couldn't... Read more
has managed to convince at least one person to take the RTS back into his hear: me. I'm also convinced that about any strategy lover will be surprised by this game by the shear amount of innovations, surprises, authenticity and pure quality and immersion it offers. Without a doubt more impressive is the intensity the makers give with the combination of an excellent presentation, complex but satisfying micro-management, a finally independent own and enemy AI and a... Company of Heroes is, simply put, one of the best strategy games I have ever played, and one of my favorite ever. It has an excellent campaign and a truly superb multiplayer component, both of which and challenging and rewarding. The controls and gameplay are tight, the factions are well-balanced, and the graphics are nice to look at. If you are a strategy fan, or even if you just like WWII, you should at least give this game a try. Read more
.. of FPS and Strategy. This si a squad based action game that plays like a shooter. The graphics are great and the controls are smooth. To be honest, I thought this game is hard. I didn't finish it. But I did like it. If you like shooters, and wanna try something new, this is worth a shot. (no pun intended). Okay, maybe it was. Read more
In fact, so far I've just run the demo, but like almost no other demo I've played with, I'm totally addicted. I just bought a new video card for Christmas, so that the cut scenes in the campaign should play much more smoothly; but for simple skirmish play, I was able to max out the graphics on an Intel Pentium D 3.0 GHz with a GeForce 6600, and it looked fine and played well. One of the reasons I chose the new video card that I did (a GeForce 8800 GT) was because... Read more
