Conclusion: Relic's approach here brings to mind a free-to-play game, with players able to buy a full multiplayer experience with their choice of faction, then pick up other armies at a later date should they wish. You don't need to own any other army to play against them, which neatly avoids splitting the player base. While issues of army balance will inevitably rear their head down the line, it's a smart concept that gets off to a good start with The Western Front Armies .
Company of Heroes 2 Review - A Shift to the Cold Eastern Front
3 April 2014
Excerpt: The original Company of Heroes was a game adored by critics and gamers alike. Company of Heroes 2 builds upon the solid foundations of the original and adds exciting new features, such as fog of war; winter weather and, of course, a shift to the eastern front.
Company of Heroes 2: The Western Front Armies (PC) Review
7 February 2014
Excerpt: (NOTE: I had a very limited selection of photos for this review, because screencapping my experience would have grabbed other players' screen names. I didn't want to chance missing a tiny screen name in photoshop, thereby violating another player's privacy.
Excerpt: The real-time strategy genre is very under-represented these days, with three of its biggest players being Blizzard with the Warcraft and StarCraft series', Creative Assembly with the Total War series and Relic Entertainment with… let's just say that Relic has been making strategy games for a really long time.
Summary: Victory at Stalingrad is paid DLC that's a part of the larger Turning Point update, which also includes new free multiplayer maps, the World Builder tools, four free commanders, and four premium commanders. The free stuff is great, so even if you don't want to buy more DLC for Company of Heroes 2 , you will still find something new if you jump back into the game. I really enjoyed the base game quite a bit, and it has added a lot of content since its release.
Excerpt: Company of Heroes 2 is the anticipated sequel to its landmark predecessor, Company of Heroes. During the development of the Company of Heroes 2, Relic had their publisher switched from THQ to SEGA. This turbulence suggests that not all design decisions may have come out exactly as planned.
Summary: Company of Heroes 2 comes off strong with its new campaign, and it packs an impressive amount of extra features. Standing on its own, it is an impressive real-time strategy game, but there are people who want to know what makes this better than the beloved original Company of Heroes . The simple answer to that question is that it's more of what they love.
Summary: Unfortunately I can’t really recommend picking up Company Of Heroes 2 for the simple fact that outside of some of the unique gameplay elements, it’s basically the same game I played 8 years ago. Company of Heroes 2 feels more like an expansion than a true sequel with the only new elements being the Weather and Theatre of War game mode.
