Combat Mission: Shock Force has room for improvement
28 June 2011
Summary: Overall a decent game with great graphics HOWEVER -I found controlling units difficult compared to games like Rome Total War (e.g. no option to set a formation) -crashed several times (though I didn't download the patches yet). This game played much better with a mouse than on my laptops touchpad.
Summary: This is an Arcade game for children. The word simulator is decieving. I've played many simulators, this is one of the worst. The game had a decent rating, and is a Microsoft product. The people that rated this game are probably the ones that play Fantasy, dragons, fairies, and trolls with super powers. What a waste of mb's.
Play the demo first if you're a fan of the last game series!

Summary: First off, I was big fan of this developer's last games Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin and Beyond Overlord. I thought it was pretty realistic like Operation Flashpoint but from a command perspective. My real complaint about this new game series is that the control interface feels awkward and cumbersome compared to the simplistic control interface in Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin.
Conclusion: I'd bought the three previous combat mission games and loved them. This one is really buggy in terms of hardware compatibility. I've a 3.4MHz dual core and GeForce7600GT which runs Medieval Total war with no problem. With this game, as soon as the shooting starts the framerate on my hardware drops to 1 or 2 FPS - it's completely unplayable. Patches may fix this in the future and I'm holding on to the game in hope, but be warned!
