Summary: CFS 3 is a terrible flight simulator. The only reason I purchased it was that it was required in order to fly Over Flanders Fields which is a WWI flight simulator. Over Flanders Fields uses some of the files connected with CFS 3 but is a separate simulator in its own right. Over Flanders Fields transformes CFS 3 into an exciting realistic full scale World War One simulator that is probably the best WWI flight simulator currently available.
Summary: The game has serious issues, loads slowly, runs OK when it first starts, then freezes, for a minute or two, then starts, stops, impossible to play the game. I have Flight Simulator FX that runs perfectly so it is apparently the software.
Summary: I had purchased this game for my 86 year old Dad who was a pilot in World War 2 and flew blimps during the Korean War. After purchasing the game and the controller, it would NOT play on my Dad's laptop. Says you need a DIRECTX8 video card and that is not available on notebooks. What a disappointment. And then there was a re-stocking fee to return it of $5.00. Not a happy camper.
Summary: When I got this game, it was nothing but trouble. It gave me the blue screen of death twice, I had to reinstall it because Microsoft's patches have to be unzipped in the right order (picky!) and even then it didn't work. Either the menu would show up with a black screen, the menu background would show up with MASSIVE graphical tearing but with no menu, or the menu would show up perfectly fine but with NO SOUND AT ALL.
Summary: I only purchased this game for the "Over Flanders Field" mod, which requires the CFS3 disk to play. I was not impressed by the vanilla version of this game. I thought the graphics were sub par. Buy Il-2 1946.
Summary: It is truely amazing that a "reputable" company like MS would release something this bad. It's like they figured, "what the heck, our customers will finish it for us." The planes are NOT realistic, at all, the interface is silly, the scenarios are less than Jr. High quality, and it really boils down to you, after having paid how much?, have to squint and fiddle and make up excuses for this thing. Do not waste your money on this product.
Summary: first the controls suck, I use a Saiteck ST 290 joystick for flight control, at first with level flight fine but when in the midle of a combat sim you try to turn or bank you can't do either, you over/under fly enemy fighters and even when you get close you can't tell who is who. ground attack forget it no way to target enemy ground units no targeting or any thing like it, , the computer programers should refund the pay to microsoft.
Summary: My son bought this game and complained to me that it didn't seem to work right, he is 9. Well what can I say, as a linux user. First, this game does not adhere to the system requirements that are listed on the box...! In fact, after installing all the fixes it comes nowhere near MS's early FS games. Second, I suspect it has serious memory leaks in it which cause your virtual memory to sky rocket after a few missions and hours of play.
Summary: I loved CFS1 and CFS2, still play them in fact, but this was very dissapointing. FIRST OFF, The graphics play very herky jerky as if my pc was low on memory BUT IM RUNNING 502 MB of ram and the latest vid software and it was still jerky/skippy/paus-ey/ crappy. The sims take too long to load with a Pent.4 no less!!! and the airplane spot view is about the worst I've seen since the old A-10 attack hog game from Sierra.
