Clive Barker's Undying

GameClubCentral
6 July 2005
  • Conclusion: Incredible graphics, capable of resolutions up to 1600x1200, amazing music and sound, and the controls are solid. Did I mention you'll pee your pants everytime you play it? It's not often you see a shooter with a story this deep, although it might deter some from not playing it. The only other games I can compare this to are Half Life and Resident Evil, which have the scare factor and deep storyline. An excellent game Mr.

Clive Barker's Undying

The Armchair Empire
7 January 2005
  • Conclusion: As I said, the game is a standard 1 st person shooter (using the Unreal Tournament Engine) with Galloway able to operate a weapon (or tool) and a spell simultaneously, which is useful when trying to keep those enemies at bay. More importantly, a little bit of strategy is required – you can't just rush in with only one bullet in the pipe, Rambo.

Clive Barker's Undying

Gameguru Mania
29 October 2003
  • Excerpt: Clive Barkers Undying is the first game from the mind of the famous British horror writer (Hellraiser, Cabal etc), honestly only a great author such as Clive Barker can produce such a great storyline as seen in Undying. Set in 1920s Ireland, you take on the role of Magnus who has been summoned to an ancestral estate by his friend, its lone descendent, Jeremiah.

Game Vortex
28 September 2003
  • Excerpt: In both movies and games that rely on fear, both the visuals and the audio must envelop you with an atmosphere conducive to scaring. The last game to really get this right (despite any issues with the gameplay itself) was Alien: Resurrection for the PlayStation. Undying hits it on the head as well. There are a ton of environments in Clive Barker's Undying , and each one has its own feel.

Clive Barkers Undying

Game Over Online
13 March 2001
  • Excerpt: What could you possibly expect from a title that boasts the name of one of the world’s best horror writers? If you said horror, you’re neither right nor wrong. It’s rather difficult to classify any game as horror, simply because you don’t scare the same way as when you’re watching a movie or reading a book. Though the experience is similar, I like to over complicate things and have once again succeeded in doing just that.

ActionTrip

  • Conclusion: That about wraps it up, folks... Final verdict: this is one title that single player FPS wouldn't want to miss. Despite a few irksome drawbacks this is one helluva horror action game, and I hope titles like this one just keep on coming... I'll be a happy man.
  • Pros: Immersive, moody, pretty, pretty scary, and deep... Clive breathes some fresh life into the genre;
  • Cons: Linear gameplay can be a turn off... AI glitches. Ineffective spells, needs more weapons (relative con's - it's a matter of taste).

Clive Barker Undying

GamersHell.com
24 February 2001
  • Excerpt: Clive Barker's Undying is a brand new first person shooter from Electronic Arts. The game is based on a slightly enhanced Unreal Tournament engine, while the story was written by the famous horror writer Clive Barker (who among other things wrote and directed the movie "Hellraiser"). The plot is fairly simple: the place is Ireland, the time is 1920's. You are Patrick Galloway, somewhat of an expert in the sphere of the occult and mysterious.

  • Excerpt: The first first-person action game since Half-Life with a soul…and it’s after yours . Squeezing graphics and performance out of the Unreal engine until it screams and bleeds, Undying puts players in the unenviable shoes of occult-buster Galloway, summoned to take on the supernatural badness of a 1920s-era Irish mansion.
