Like Batman's Joker or Superman's Luthor, NCSoft's extraordinary superhero MMO City of Heroes has found its perfect foil in the amazing City of Villains . Read more

    • PvP is incredibly fun; base-building adds a whole new level of gameplay; improved costume design system; great new MasterMind class; superb art direction.
    • Some class imbalances; arena system needs to be overhauled; needs more missions; not solo-friendly.

A fun, engaging experience. If you loved City of Heroes , you’ll certainly love what Villains adds to the whole experience. Read more

    • Create your own villain with tons of customization; lots of fun to be had; easy to get into for people that are tired of the same old fantasy MMORPG setting.
    • There won't be much else to do for people that demand a few extra-curricular activities; the new content is only cosmetic and, outside of PvP, plays nearly identical to

City of Villains is no more a sequel to City of Heroes than Lex Luthor is a sequel to Superman. It is City of Heroes’ nemesis, its dark companion, the yang to City of Heroes’ yin. City of Villains is a stand alone game and you need never have played City of Heroes to enjoy it. On the other hand, if you’ve played City of Heroes and are looking to experience the dark side of your hero’s soul or walk around in the shoes of his or her greatest enemy, City of Villains... After City of Heroes received the high praise it did from gamers everywhere, Ncsoft has gone another step further and created City of Villains.  If you are tired of the self-righteous, “good”, and yet bothersome citizens of Paragon City, get ready!  In City of Villains, you can strap on your evil attire and cause destruction throughout the city, destroying any measly citizen that dares cross your path. When it comes down to enjoyment level, if you enjoyed City of Heroes then I don’t see any reason for you to dislike the dark side of the force. While the missions are repetitive and linear, all you need to do to spice them up is play with a few friends, whether you met them in or out of the game. The graphics and sound aren’t anything to praise the Lord for, but they do their job. Read more

  1. CoH/CoV still fun after 6 years

I've been playing CoH for 6 years, and CoV since it came out. From the early days of street sweeping to the difficult and extremely fun incarnate missions and arc missions of today, I have always returned to CoH/CoV. Right now, I'm splitting my time between a Villian SG and a Heroes SG trying to decide which to stick with. Its hard to decide, all my characters (50) are a blast to play. Read more

  2. "Bad Game Code in Box"

I'm no newbie to the gaming world. I've played Ultima Online for 3 years, WOW since the beginning, Guild Wars and others. I have to say, I have never, NEVER got a game and entered the code from the box to say code is already in use. It's been 2 weeks with constant emails back and forth to them and each time they want more information. I give up. It may be a good game to play, but I'm really pissed that I wasted this much time on a game I paid for and can't play. Read more

For those looking to buy City of Villains, I feel it's important not just to look at the rating and comments on this page, but also the reviews of its sister game, City of Heroes. CoV was released as both an expansion and stand-alone game, and much of the gameplay is the same as that from CoH, so any reviews there will likely be relevant. Read more
