One Of The Best Wild West Games Around

blaud, Empire Online
22 December 2011
  • Summary: An exquisitely themed, beautifully atmospheric western shooter, Call Of Juarez may lack some polish, but it most certainly doesn't lack in experience. You trail around typical western locations as either Billy Candle or Reverend Ray (fugitive and pursuer respectively), shooting most anything that crosses your path, or when that fails, using cunning and a bit of brainpower.

Juarez: Not So Golden

gabe549, Ciao
28 July 2011
  • Excerpt: "Despite a vastly successful century of classic western films and then the spaghetti resurrections native to the 1960s, game developers have been visibly resistant in translating John Wayne and Charles Bronson to the digital realm, preferring instead to focus on more modern titles. Considering the facts surrounding this era of American history and the films based off it, the present trend is not so difficult to explain. With 6-shot pistols and the ...

Call of a let down

CloudRule..., Ciao
1 September 2008
  • Excerpt: "Call of Juarez promises so much yet delivers so very little. The concept of it interested me greatly but the game itself was disappointing. You play as two characters, one at a time - Reverend Ray and Billy. Reverend Ray has a dark past and when his brother is killed his dark side comes out once again. Billy is a nobody who has spent his time looking for the treasure of Juarez only to return home empty handed. He gets caught up in a battle at the ...
  • Pros: Fairly decent storyline
  • Cons: No connection to characters, graphics and sound lacking , poor gameplay, no replay value

Buy it but.....

Brausch, Play.com
27 April 2008
  • Conclusion: Make sure your PC is up to it first as the graphics can be demanding. Western games are in short supply on the PC so this has little competition (Gun, Dead Man's Hand). It's well written, plays well, decent AI and striking graphics. The plot device of having you play as alternate characters with strengths of stealth and shooting means levels are often played twice with completely different gameplay.

  • Conclusion: the gfx are good for this game and you do need a good pc to run it on full, but the DX10v does not improve the gfx that much and for the price its great

Great idea

joyofsix, Play.com
27 April 2008
  • Conclusion: Some really good stuff but one big problem for me is that when you start game up the mouse and keyboard (via USB) don't work. Have to CTRL ALT DELETE and then re enter game. Annoying after a while - might be cause its Vista - req are for XP. Patch doesn't fix.
