Borderlands Review

Games Abyss
7 February 2011
  • Conclusion: The replay value in the game is tremendous, and there is always new and better loot to get.
  • Pros: It's a massive open world with plenty of cannon fodder.
  • Cons: Static environments and a thin narrative can make the world around you seem bland.

Please don't shoot me, Please don't shoot me...

RPGamer

  • Excerpt: Last year, Fallout 3 was the buzz of the RPG world, and it quickly gained the affectionate title, Oblivion with Guns . If that's true, then the same comparison can be made of Blizzard's Diablo series and Gearbox's recent shooter/RPG hybrid Borderlands . Many shooters these days adapt minimal RPG elements in order to provide a sense of character progression, but Borderlands takes the opposite approach, taking the classic dungeon-crawling, loot-gathering formula, and...

  • Conclusion: If you enjoyed Borderlands and still wanted more, then definitely download The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. The main story line is still a blast even if you go it alone and some of the side quests will challenge the most hardened team of Boarderlands veterans. This is by far the best of the three add-ons for the core game, and the most fun I had since I completed the main game last year.

Borderlands (PC)

3 February 2010
  • Excerpt: Borderlands is a unique first-person shooter (FPS) and role-playing game (RPG) hybrid from Gearbox Software. While other games combine a first-person perspective with a role playing game, or the other way around, Borderlands is unique among these. It combines a substantial set of main plot and side-quests, and other RPG mainstays, like character growth and advancement, with full-blown FPS gameplay.

  • Pros: Fast paced shooting action; lots of loot to gather; tight controls; fun special moves.
  • Cons: Very little set loot; respawning enemies are a pain.

  • Excerpt: Ahh, the RPG. We've all played them, and most of us are particularly picky about them. Believe me, I am -- they must meet a certain standard, and most simply fall short.

Borderlands Review

Strategy Gaming Online
19 October 2009
  • Excerpt: when I realized Gearbox Software really did manage to combine the first person shooter and RPG without quite nearly the compromise we've seen in other developers' efforts. With the spin and rattle of a revolver's chamber, with the satisfying clicks of dropping new shells into a shotgun, and with the bass-heavy explosion of a sniper rifle removing the head of an enemy downrange,

Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned review

Gameplanet
30 November 2009
  • Excerpt: A nice beginning for what we hope will be regular DLC updates for this great game.
  • Pros: Funny, really funny. Nice new environments. New enemies change up the gameplay nicely. Zombies are always good. A much better told and entertaining story. Good amount of content.
  • Cons: Difficulty skews based on your progress in the story not your level. If you are at too high a level it will be too easy and you won't get any good loot.

Borderlands

VideoGames NZ
16 November 2009
  • Conclusion: Stunningly amazing game. What are you even doing reading this? 2K Games has delivered another brilliant, breathtaking and beautiful opus of a game
  • Pros: A brilliant pastiche of role-playing and shooting, taking the best of both worlds and melding it into an unstoppable force of a game
  • Cons: The language and content is strictly adult only, but you just know that young kids will be playing this, even if they shouldn't
